I had to learn UEFN to help someone a few weeks ago, it is actually terrible, take everything you love about UE and then remove 60% if it, and that is UEFN. :P Why is there no BP? I can understand C++ being removed, but BP? seriously? Yes remove the one feature that made UE4+ so insanely popular, and accessible, and totally remove it, and replace it with a written scripting language... No one outside of the UEFN ecosystem is going to learn Verse, and I do not know any programmers who think it is a good thing for them to learn. Many of the older features that live inside UE also missing, no level streaming for small environments, using it was like using UE but with boxing gloves on. The only reason I was even having to do it, was because they made it insanely difficult to add custom video, so I had to convert their rendered animation to a real-time cinematic for a client.

They are removing BP completely and replacing it with Verse for UE6. They want every game to be buildable for either a binary or UEFN, because Epic believes standalone games are disappearing and metaverse is the future. They push for Verse because current languages can't do transactions well and they think metaverse games should seamlessly run on millions of computers with the same code as something written for a single machine (eg. a function or library not even necessarily being local). They are making some bold future assumptions, but we will see if reality matches their vision. It's a mixed bag, but it's early. Fortnite users so far have no interest in non-fortnite content and current direction doesn't look sustainable, but GaaS eating classics games market seems to be true.

@@kazioo2 there are too many assumptions here. I highly doubt they are going to leave Blueprints behind. Sorry, but no-they’re likely going to make Verse usable in Unreal Engine because of its accessibility for new programmers, but not at the expense of Blueprints

That is a terrible idea, not everyone can learn a written scripting language, which is why BP was so popular in the first place, they would have to make Verse a Visual system like BP for most people to have any hope at all in adapting to changes, never mind it would be like UE3 to UE4 all over again, where you would have to start from scratch, because you could not migrate your code. I was very much a Kismet guy back in the UE3 days, because Uscript was always going to be beyond me. Being able to see your code execute in the way BP provides, is irreplaceable.

Epic if you want UEFN to be successful fix discovery, add blueprints, add custom weapons (I presume that will come 2025) and don't reward slop.

The only people who make any money with UEFN are a few popular youtubers who make red vs blue maps though. There's no reason to make anything neat unless it's out of the love of making something for a few friends to play but that's not enough for most people. Discovery is like capitalism on steroids. Only the already large things get any attention and all they have to do is make something basic. I seen a map thar literally is just the uefn grid and nothing more get thousands of plays because popular youtuber made it.

Synthtoshi is making a sick fortnight mode in this ue. He said it was equal about the swap and automation of the game.

You guys need to realize that while in theory UEFN is a good opportunity, in practice its just using UE5 if it had its limbs cut off. Not only is there less features but Fortnite gives creators no incentive to make a good game. The target audience is kids, and they only ever play things like boxfights or other super simple PVP maps, nothing that requires genuine effort because if you really want an RPG for example, you'd play a proper RPG, not some frankenstinian half baked creation shoved into Fortnite. Even if you do make one of those cash grab games, it's a luck of the draw to see if you make any money since players are going to stick to the popular maps they know rather than bother with something nobody is playing. UEFN is a waste of time for the vast majority of developers who actually care about making a good game and making money off said game.

@@Lukifah It's very easy to publish on a platform like Itch and I assure you small games do better there than in Fortnite where the only things that make money are slop

@@andhikadimas6345 The only successful "metaverses" are Roblox and VRChat since they were the first and cornered the market so they're the most developed and have an existing community. Every other attempt has failed, see RecRoom, Core, ChilloutVR, etc. Even with Epic's funding I doubt Fortnite's metaverse can be that successful, especially when the numbers show most players don't care about it.

@@Lukifah There is barely any public for indie games there. Millions of kids who launch Fortnite to play Fortnite is an almost completely different kind of group. Same reason Resident Evil couldn't even sell 1% of copies on iOS. There is no such thing as "generic gaming public" and it's certainly not in Fortnite.

I'm going crazy trying to put an actor reference with a staticmesh with VERSE script, it uses a completely different API than Unreal, a terribly bad autocompletion with VScode using Verse. I can't even make a window get destroyed or a glass break, something that I would do in 5 minutes in Unreal, I can't find a way to do it in UEFN and I have a lot of experience with Unreal. I'm not going to wait, I come with the experience of Godot, which 6 years ago they said it was going to be stable and it's never stable. You have to be realistic, this as a high-level tool doesn't work, friends. You have to think better, because Unreal users don't want to learn another editor, they want to use what they already know to do their projects in the shortest time possible. We need high-level tools, Unreal tools, that change everything as little as possible. I'm a little disappointed with UEFN, I think I'm going to go back to UE 4.27 and I'm going to stay there for 10 years. 4.27, now that's a good editor, which unfortunately no longer has support or updates.
