Introductions of Four Orphan Gorillas - the first days

Introduction of our two young orphan gorillas, Ndeze and Ndakasi, to our two 7 and 9-year-old male and female gorillas, Kaboko and Maisha. Since the end of November, these four gorillas have lived next door to each other in two large enclosures at the Senkwekwe Center at Rumangabo Park headquarters.

So much misunderstanding in the comments. These four gorillas are victims of poaching, they were taken from their parents at a young age with the idea that they would be sold into the exotic animal trade. At least two lived with their captors for some years before rescue and do not know how to find food themselves as they only lived in the wild for a short amount of time before they were poached. They dont know how to survive in the wild. So this centre in the middle of Virunga National Park takes care of them and their needs. They have a lot of outside space to play in and climb and the full time care and attention of Andre and his co workers. This "cage" is where they sleep at night to be protected from poachers. In this video it is also being used to introduce the two new smaller gorillas to the two existing gorillas. For those who think its cruel to keep them behind bars whilst this introduction takes place you should consider the alternative which is put them all in together and see who comes out the winner if fighting occurs. I have no doubt that if you were introducing two new domestic pets to each other you would have no problem with them being restrained for a short time until you know nobody will get hurt. Finally you need to look at the bigger picture of what conservation organisations and Virunga National park are doing to protect wild gorillas. Virunga Park rangers patrol and protect the remaining gorillas in the park. They do this despite the constant threat of political upheaval (civil war) and poachers. And its working, in 2010 there were just 480 mountain gorillas left in the wild, in 2016 610, now in 2023 there are over 1000. But this amazing result has come at a cost. Many rangers have died protecting wild gorillas from poachers in the park. I feel frustrated seeing them inside a metal Gitter.. Its cold at Night sleeping on the floor maybe could have used wood. Thats why God made them trees from wood not metal.😰😷😷😷😷😷👎 U go and sleep inside there at night even if u helped them from danger.
