I have made two mistakes in this video : 1. I have considered Trigonal and Rhombohedral as synonyms for the same crystal system. However, as per the International Tables of Crystallography Vol A it.iucr.org/A/ the two terms are NOT synonymous. Crystal System should only be called Trigonal and not Rhombohedral. 2. I have shown only one Bravais lattice in the trigonal crystal system. But in reality there are two Bravais lattices in the trigonal system: hexagonal prinmitive (hP) and hexagonal rhombohedral (hR). And so there is no trigonal P Bravais lattice as shown in the table in this video. I plan to make a video to clarify this. Wil share the link once I do it. You can check en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_system.

Q. On s.s.p 1.By cubic end centred lattice we can form tetragonal p lattice so in bravais lattice cubic end centred lattice is not included.Now By cubic face centred lattice we can form tetragonal body centred lattice .but in bravais lattice both cubic F and tetragonal body cenred is included .why so?

Sir it was really wonderful experience throughout all lecture series! Thank you so much for clearing concepts..... One small doubt is sir, how can we explain why particular crystal system is not there is bravis lattice. For example, why Face center is not there in Monoclinic ? can you pls provide provide one or two examples like this to clear doubt...Thank you.

Please look at subsequent videos in this playlist, You will get some idea in this direction although the specific monoclinic example has not been discussed.

Can't understand this topic 😔😔..2nd yr student..when the end centerd cubic cell does not exist then why sir is showing a new end centerd cubic cell....mess up ho gya sb
@introductiontomaterialsscience4 жыл бұрын
Well, what I am trying to do is to explore the reason why 'end-centred cubic' lattice has not been considered as a Bravais lattice. The question becomes relevant when you find that it is possible to make an end-centred cubic unit cell and repeat it to get a lattice. So if I can have a lattice which is generated by repeating an end-centred cubic unit cell then why does not Bravais' list contains it? This is a central question bearing on the meaning of Bravais lattice. So please go through the video once more and I hope the 'mess' will clear up. Do not hesitate to let me know if confusion persists.

Sir one doubt is there, why are we comparing the existence of both cubic C and tetragonal I with bravais lattice, may be he was wrong and is still not corrected, also even after using symmetry for classification, we are having multiple choice for unit cell for fcc, as u said in one of your answers on quora that we just prefer the cubic C over tetragonal I.
@joeking36882 жыл бұрын
So he discounted tetragonal body cetred because he only wanted an even number? This is very unconvincing. Can you give a better explanation to this please?

Unit cell is the smallest part of the lattice which can be repeated in three directions to form a lattice And lattice is a 3d repetition of points in space and when those points are occupied by atoms( motif) can become the crystal
@vamsireddy3574 жыл бұрын
@M Qamar thank you so much
@jejjiz61624 жыл бұрын
@@vamsireddy357 A unit cell is not necessarily the smallest part of the lattice that can be periodically repeated in three dimensions to form a lattice. As he explained, one or more unit cells can also contain other unit cells. For example: two cubic F unit cells contain one, smaller, tetragonal I unit cell. Lattices are periodic repetitions of points in space. It's important to note that they must be periodic and that the space it occupies does not need to be threedimensional.
