This is brilliant as a one-off, where you need that one chance to make an impact. It doesn't really seem like a strategy that will hold up repeatedly over time with the same audience though.

My biggest struggle when I still worked full-time outside the home (self-employed now, thankfully!) was a supervisor deciding I was "anti-social" because I didn't play social butterfly at work like many of my coworkers. I did my socializing outside the office (like going to lunch with coworkers). When on the clock, I worked. I'd chat with coworkers at the copy machine while working and was friendly when approached in the office, but I didn't stand around while on the clock just to socialize (which is what supervisors seemed to expect). Do you have any suggestions on how to manage the "social butterfly" expectations of a supervisor while not violating personal ethics by using on-the-clock work time just standing around socializing? I wanted to ask in case I'm not the only introvert who's run into this conflict. I got dinged on almost every evaluation I ever had for this issue, despite the fact coworkers liked me and my supervisor KNOWING I regularly went to lunch with those coworkers.
