I dont think there is single painting I have ever done that has not been a therapeutic journey with subliminal messages for my conscious mind as well as my subconscious struggles. I once did a painting of 4 zebras galloping through dust with a herd of wildebeest. At the time I was simply being challenged by a limited pallet with a lot of detail but lost and found. It took me several years to realise it signified my escape from an abusive marriage with my 3 daughters. It was such an aha.
