Guys that were considered to be the super stars of the sport who decided to leave Bassmaster for MLF, like Skeet Reese, Brent Ehrler, Justin Lucas etc. Basically disappeared off the face of the earth. You really gotta go out of your way to follow their careers.

NPFL has the right idea but needs more exposure. No FFS is one step, here are a few ideas. No more boat flipping, just use a net. No more Livewell use-catch weigh and release. All fish must be at least 2lbs to count. All fish will be hooked in the mouth no matter what lure it is. No tourneys on a lake during the peak spawn if possible. Must pass lie detector test period.

Market is too flooded! Too many subsidiaries trying to get limited sponsorship dollars! The sport DOES need to be filtered out! The only should be one elite circuit! Now, I’m not gonna argue BASS or the BPT is better than the other. Hell, the NPFL could end up dominating. Bottom line is the herd needs to be thinned. All of this college sponsorship needs to be thinned like it or not! The money just isn’t there!!!

100% facts! 1 superior league where the fan base can focus is definitely in the best interest of a sport that is hurting. Even our biggest sports have 1 top league; NFL, MLB, NBA, etc and then we have bass fishing with multiple leagues, rules , and shit going everywhere. Make a damn decision and stay with it. At this point, the NPFL has my attention more than the others. They have made good hires ( Ken Duke) and they have made hard decisions for the best interest of their league and the future of tournament angling.

derby type fishing has always been less than productive for the enviroment and all but a few participants. competition is usually beneficial to any sport ; if you control it with appropriate rules . Forward looking sonar will not go away unless they litigate it out of existence, and by doing so they will loose both sponsors and spectators.

As a lifelong fisherman I’ve never thought monetizing recreational fishing was a good idea for the fish or the fisherman. Endless tournaments on the lakes not only monopolizes the water but ties up the launches many weekends for the benefit of the few. Ive seen plenty of released fish belly up after these events. Leave money out of the sport and it goes back to what it always was…a great recreational pastime and a lifelong pursuit for the sake of enjoying the natural world.

Problem there is these companies will sue the states banning it and bury them in legal fees and it will drive away a lot of the business that follows. What I mean by that is all the people watching these tourneys who flood these lakes after the pro tour goes there. Gas revenue, hotel stays, food, lures, etc. Alabama makes 50-100 million a year just off of that alone. That's simply too much money to leave on the table. Then you have the situation with the DNR. They really have no authority, they can only make recommendations, which, with how much money is involved, are largely ignored. Yay Capitalism.

Isn't the answer to the lowering of the payouts by B.A.S.S is just do better. If you finish high the money is still there. The real problem is the professionals feel like they deserve more financial security than the regular weekend tournament guys does . The local tournament guys do not get a large check for finishing 40th place and some of those tournaments have way more entries than any elite series tournament does so the payout should go deeper in a 200 boat derby than a 100 boat derby.

Bass fishing is the worst sport to be the best in the world at! The best anglers in the world lose money to fish each year because the payouts don't even cover their expenses. This is not because FFS "ruined" bass fishing, but because bass fishing has always been like watching paint dry. You Tube has helped some people market themselves because they share valuable information that actually helps other catch fish but sponsors are going to pay much more to You Tube Influencers that actually sell product rather than a series or or a tour that only most the diehard fisherman watch.

There are plenty of good tournament series to make way better money without having to listen to all the complaints from the old men winning because they don't want to adapt to the new world. Time for a new circuit that weeds out all the complaints. Everyone can use it. And your part of the problem, all you do is complain when you don't even fish the series. Every time someone kicks but with new tools, it gets band. Bass is not what it use to be but it's not because of forward sonar. It's just like any other sport,age gets your number. I see it all the time with older guys. They bitch about baits, graphs and everything else. We need a new series. And fishing in the 80,s there was barely anyone in the series. Now there is more anglers and better fisherman and better techniques. You have to learn more techniques. The guys that when in the series are good at everything.
