I'm only 17 and I love the sluggo. Nobody throws them anymore, so when the bass have seen every spinnerbait, chstterbait, and creature bait known to man, I pick up a Arkansas Shiner sluggo and wear the bass out around shallow cypress trees.

Love your stuff Randy. I was there when Herbie Reed broke out the prototype of the sluggo at a 2day tourney on Candlewood lake. Showed people the bait and most thought it looked stupid and never would catch a fish. Then he proceeded to cast it next to our boats while we were waiting and I'll tell you, the action was like nothing anyone ever saw at that time. A true one of a kind bait back then. Aahhh the good Ol days lol

I remember well when the sluggo came out, I made the mistake of fishing it by sight, and missed several really big ones anytime I had a little wind making it hard to see. I finally learned to fish it by feel.

Mopped up on the bass using this in the Potomac around the outside edge of the hydrilla patches in the early 90s. Red shad was the way to go. Still have several but just haven't used them much over the last 10 years. When they hit it, they smashed it. Thanks for bringing this one up!

We used to use the smaller (4") sluggos rigged like wacky worms...but back then we called it a sling shot rig. Caught some monsters doing that when I was much younger. Made the switch to the fluke and the dinger and I never went back, but seeing this, I'm anxious to try that rigging style.

Biggest bass I ever hooked was on a sluggo in an Oklahoma pond, got a long look at the fish as I dredged it over the grass. I couldn’t get it in any farther so I decided to wade out and go get it. Old girl managed to get her tail back in the water and rolled hard and straighten out the 5/0 hook I was using. She was no doubt north of twelve pounds......fished that pond for years afterward and never hooked her again....got lots of five pound plus fish there. New owner drained the pond a few years back.
