Well, despite being 300+ years old, he is still a teenager by demon standards. Also, there's the fact that after his mother died 60 to 100 years prior, he lived a nomadic existence before he met Kikio and settled in her village 50 years before the start of the series. Hated by demons for being half human and hated by humans for being half demon, it makes sense why Inuyasha is so uncultured.
