It's spelled that way due to dubbing in a way people can pronounce it. Like in Tenchi Muyo the character Aeka is the correct spelling but is spelt in English as Ayeka solely for pronouncation purposes.

Like Michiru with Inuyasha, Miroku and Shippo and Kaname with Sango and Kagome? I noticed with a couple other vids I've seen that it differs when you choose someone that's the same gender as you.
