You know, my dad once walked in on me watching Invader Zim and actually sat down to laugh for an episode or two. Never watched the whole show like I did, but all he needed was a few minutes to enjoy it. Gir was obviously his favorite and he at one point had a decal sticker of him on his car. The “HI BABY!!” was his favorite bit and once when he was picking me up from my mom, he walked up to the car when she rolled down the window and quoted the line as he waved erratically at me just like Gir. One of my most fond memories.

I honestly love the growth of Zim and Gir. At first Zim is very annoyed by every single thing that Gir does and when he tries to fix him on a couple of occasions it backfires massively. Zim eventually learns to roll with it and I really feel the two of them balance off each other quite well. Sure, as an Invader he would like his robot servant to work more efficiently but at this point it's more like a roommate situation and there are times he actually appreciates Gir's personality.

It really shows in the movie where, for instance the pug scene, Zim isn't annoyed or anything or questions why he did it. All he comments on is the fact he thought GIR liked the pig.

Fun fact! The show premiered March 30th, 2001. I was 5 years old! I grew up with this show, and GIR always was my favorite! Probably why I'm such an awkward 26(almost 27) year old. 🤣 Love it to this day!
