About the Krista book thing: I don't remember if it's explicitly stated, but it's at least strongly implied that when Paradis isolated itself and the royal family rewrote the memories of the people inside the walls, they had to do something about the written sources/books that mentioned Ymir and the Titans. Afaik the story of the book was about Ymir coming into contact with a Titan-demon and cursing her descendants to become "devils". The story itself was not an accurate account of events. It might have been Marley's propaganda or maybe an Eldian legend. Still, the royal family decided to alter the contents of the book so that people couldn't link the Titans to Ymir (or to humans in general) at all, and so Ymir was changed to Krista and the Titan-demon was changed to a witch or something. Rod Reiss obviously knew about the Ymir/Krista swap, so by seeing the book he probably got the inspiration to change Historia's name into Krista, overwriting her existence in the same way the royal family did for the Ymir of the story. (Forgive me if I got anything wrong or if I made something up, it's been a while since I watched/read AoT)

Ya know what's funny about the changes the season made is, they did it in an attempt to fix the pacing problem the manga had......and to some extent they did,. But they created the opposite effect. Where instead of it being paced to slowly, it's paced a tadge to quickly. I've watched S3P1 more times then I've watched any other season of any anime, and I only recently fully understand everything about the plot. If you microscope into a lot of things, it can get confusing. And that's probably due to how quickly paced it is. On the other hand, I'm glad. Because Isayama learned a lot from Uprising criticisms. Which I actually agree with. Because Marley onward is rich with so much subtext and subtlety that the earlier arcs just don't have. It communicates just enough information without it being fast paced. And YOU have to look into the details. I really dig it, and it's probably my favorite aspect of those arcs. Things like Erens titan building things to experiment is a fantastic example of bad pacing. We don't really need to know this information to understand the plot going forward. It takes a while to read, and you get nothing back from the series. "I'm still a little confused of the exact incident that sends them into hiding" Yeah exactly. It can get very weird if you hyper examine everything. If you're a general audience member I wouldn't ask any questions in regards to the plot of this season. But yes, you guessed correctly, it's cus Military Police were present when they saw Eren use the Titan Manipulation ability. Levi isn't in hiding because they're not technically fugitives yet, they're just keeping Eren hidden from the public in case they make a move on him. I thought the implication for how Levi knew was the untraditional way they did the kidnapping. The Interior MPs caring way to much about their reputation to ever use amateurs, but Kenny caring far less, and using them as decoys to surprise attack Levi. Episode 1 has so much plot I'm not kidding. Ik this is long already, and I'll make an effort to keep it short. But this ep probably has the most plot out of any AoT episode. Like if you really start thinking about how all of the sequence of events are moving, you'll discover a lot of underlying plot. I didn't know that with the sleep darts. Interesting piece of trivia. Can we talk about how so many people use this 1 Levi ODM sequence that lasts 2 minutes of an entire episode, in an entire season, to say an entire seasons animation is better then future seasons animation? Still, really good obviously. But the fandoms argument over this 1 scene should be studied lmao. Blue shirt Armin best Armin? Better then that white shirt from ending. Yeah Invaderzz, you summed it up perfectly. I think there's a lot of good in these changes for sure. But there was def stuff you could've kept. I think there's a ideal middle ground somewhere for sure. Whenever that AoT Live Action comes out and it ends up being the bestest thing in the whole wide world, we'll get that ideal adaptation. Mesopatamian lore with Forecast. Mappa EDs solo this one. But I do like this one. Again, another moment of the fandom making this awkward lmaooo. But still, really good. "I thought it was kind of exciting how fast it was" Yeah exactly, I think a lot of people have that sentiment. Ultimately, I do prefer Uprising anime personally. BUT, and this is kind of a crazy statement, so I gotta preface it with the good ole IMO, I think the seasons changes were NECESSARY, and if we got a 1:1 adaptation, It could've very possibly ended AoT. Hype was really low going into Season 3. I've heard so many povs of people seeing the Levi ODM scene on twitter, or in GIFs and being like, oh wow, I need to get back on AoT. Because S2s 4 year gap (Also pretty sure the general audience opinion was S2 was worse then S1. Which is interesting, and if S3 had been worse then both. Yikers). So if it was as slowly paced as the manga was? When AoT before was more known for being a phenomenal action series? Like oh my god, I can't even imagine. IDK how general audiences would've felt about it. Oh yeah. There's a lot to unpack with the whole Historia being a Illegitimate child thing. Again, another subplot that's insanely complicated if you're a general audience member lmaooo. Oh hey, the Ymir fritz book, the 2nd most important book in the series. Oh hey, you guys try unpacking it. Uhh okay. So to keep it brief. Historias not legitimate. The council won't accept her inheriting the power to protect them all because of that. So they send in Kenny to go look for Rod, he finds Rod, sees him with what looks to be a mistress, and tracks them to the farm. The council either wants Rod to inherit the power of the titan, or for him to conceive another child of royalty. Rod never did that.....soooo he's either Infertile, or he's just not following their demands. Either way it seems the council is more okay with Historia inheriting the power nowadays. Kind of left ambiguous as to why. I have some theories, but for sake of length, I won't elaborate to much. But this is what I mean when I say, if you're a general audience member, good god, just roll with the flow lmaooo. Connie thinks he's Luffy with that hat. Well the town likes the Flegal Merchant company. So if Flegal speaks up they're much more willing to listen to him then if Hanje speaks up. Ehhh, I wouldn't call 42 a connecting ep. There's some pay offs we get done there. And we've technically accomplished the main part of the uprising. Man Erens got ABS. What's bluds core workout. Oh yeah physical contact awakening certain memories is really weird. But we'll talk about that when we get to S4P2. I like how as the season goes on, you guys are slowly realizing you like S2 more lmao. Oh yeah this cave battle is really good. But I can't explain why as the comment will be way to long. But like, all I'll really say is. Small group with swords have to beat Big group with guns. The amount of Superhero Movies that would copout and just have the people with guns close the distance idiotically against people with swords is insurmountable. But yeah, on a writing level this battle is choreographed extremely well. Huh??? But did the Tyburs leave to go to Paradis with King Fritz for a period of time, and then go back to Marley??? IDK about that. I just think the Founder when mastered is capable of producing larger Armament structures then you think. "Marco.......and those guys from squad Levi" BRUH LMAOO AIN'T NO WAY. Oh, you guys might conclude S3P1s better on the basis that it'll have 2 S+ eps. Friends and Bystander are gonna win you guys over lmao. Ohhh, you guys mean if Historias pure titan touches Eren. Then wouldn't Eren have control because he has the founder in the moment so theoretically how would you ever get it back....... Hmmm depends. I already said I'll save physical contact memory thing for S4P2 so the comments not to long. But I'll lead you in the right direction, think about how touching Dina activated the pure titans in the area, it didn't bring him to Paths or anything. But touching Zeke didn't control the pure titans in the area, it brought him to Paths. I don't think Erwins face heals completely no? I think his eye is like....swollen a teetsy bit. Least it's something lol. Wait really??? The Orvud battle was considered the worst in the series for a while? You serious? Source? Lmaooo. That's just interesting to me cus don't people who put this season on a high pedestal complain about the Cringevengers stuff being to Marvel esk later on?? Rod is like Willy. There's a lot I still don't have a grasp on in terms of their characters that I'd have to think about more in future. I'm glad the Forecast bit was included. Deserved. FRIENDS DIDN'T GET PUT IN- Also how did you guys think this seasons better then S2 then? By your own tierlist pretty sure it isn't lol. Another Mr Beast reference from Forecast. He needs to find a way to insert one every arc. I agree with you on the Mikasa interrupting cut. The Grisha thing is interesting. IDK though. I do think a part of him wants to retry and live a life with Carla and his new family. Because like....I mean he stops himself from going into the chapel. He doesn't talk to the scouts about it, he doesn't really try getting anyone inside the walls help like he does with the restorationist movement. He just kinda abandons that mission, goes home, and hugs his son. Because I guess overthrowing the government at that point, and revealing yourself, would just dramatically change everything, and at the time, he just didn't really want that. He really appreciated this 2nd chance he got with this new family and wanted to embrace the normalcy of everything. "War for Paradis does it just better" yeah. Uprisings outclassed pretty hard by WFP. Tis true. But it does have a lot to offer regardless. And...yeah honestly. I'm shocked at how low you guys ranked it. I'd guess you probably feel S2 is better afterall? Yeeeep. Now we're getting to the big ole seasons. This'll be really fun. I hope you continue the project, but obviously keep your health in mind. I definitely can't respond to all of your comment, but I wanna let you know I appreciate you taking the time to write this out. I'll try to respond to a couple of your points: Yeah, I think you're right that Isayama learned from Uprising. I think one thing we didn't emphasize enough in this video is how even though uprising doesn't always succeed at what it is trying, it is a really ambitious arc- how many authors have the balls to turn their shonen battle series into a slow paced political thriller? Especially when their series is the singular most viral manga in the world at the time? So I really appreciate it for that aspect. And the later political arcs definitely improve on its shortcomings. I agree with you that Eren's titan experiments being cut is good for the pacing, but as a lore junkie it makes me sad lmao. Regarding how Levi knew about the kidnapping, I think to us we just felt like it's a little too much of a reach- like Levi isn't wrong for assuming they'd use a strategy like that, but it might be a little much for him to deduce the culprit from that alone. You have a good point about the adaptation changes being necessary. I think if the anime was as it was, but they extended the events of episode 39 and 40 to be two episodes instead of one (for 13 episodes total in the season), I would not have any real complaints about the pacing. I think that's the main part that suffers. To be clear when we're unpacking stuff like "Why did the assembly assassinate historia's mom", we're not actually criticizing the show, I just think it's fun to do so. Like it doesn't impact my rating at all, just to be clear. People definitely did complain about the Orvud battle back then, not in a serious way, but the consensus seemed to be that it was just the least interesting part of the series. Especially since it follows such a complex political arc. I never agreed with that tho, I've always liked it I was surprised by our own placement of Friends and Bystander. I think Friends is definitely the 4th best episode we've watched so far, but with the S+ tier our idea is like "these are the best episodes of TV ever made". Friends is amazing but I think it isn't QUITE on that level, but it's still the best of the S tier. On the other hand we were both surprised by Bystander and both expected to rate it S. I think as a whole though it just isn't quite there- the Shadis bit is entirely amazing, but the first half is not that special. I would also say it's one of the higher A tier episodes though. Regarding us saying we like season 3 more, I think we both feel that even though season 2 has better individual episodes, season 3 and it's overarching political plot is just more interesting as a whole than the events of Clash. My take is that basically while Uprising is more flawed than Clash, it represents AoT becoming truly nuanced and almost maturing in a way (not saying this to detract from the earlier seasons which are also great). Those nuances continue to grow with each subsequent arc from here on out. I won't spoil the next video but I think AoT from Return to Shiganshina up until the ending is more or less an absolute masterpiece, and you'll definitely hear my extended thoughts on that when we get to it.

46:00 I feel like the reason the fight with Rod’s titan isn’t very good is because of the massive plot hole it creates. It always seemed like Isayama wanted to create this large scale climax for the finale of an arc that really hasn’t had much action, so he has Rod become a 100 meter tall mindless titan because either his spine was broken or he injected it wrong. If that’s the case, are we supposed to believe that even after years of experimentation, Marley never figured that out. Like we know for a fact they tested out different ways to have people ingest the spinal fluid because of Zeke’s gas weapon, so it seems probable that they would have had someone lick it, and there’s no way they didn’t transform people that weren’t already injured. In all likelihood Marley should’ve at least encountered something similar to this effect, but they just never use it. Like imagine how differently the attack on Fort Slava would have been if they were dropping multiple 100 meter titans, or if during RTS Zeke had a line of massive mindless titans that were under his control. Maybe I’m missing something but it feels like it creates the biggest plot hole in the whole series.

How would Marley control the 100+ meter titan though? The reason the mindless titans they use are so practical is because once they've done their job, they can get rid of them for their own convenience. But how would you get rid of 100+ meter titans? I think it was smart to leave it ambiguous. Because you can't really poke holes in it due to ambiguity. Was it because his spine broke? Was it because his Tongue was cut and he licked it? Was it because he was royal blood? Was it a mix of all of these? Or even some of these? We don't know. And because of how unique the circumstance is. It's unlikely to be replicated by anyone, including Marley, and even if it was, it's not very practical strategically.

@@Sonicfan889 You gotta remember that all titans created by Zeke’s spinal fluid can be controlled by him, so it wouldn’t really be an issue. I agree that it’s good that he leaves it ambiguous, but unless it’s because he’s royal blood it just doesn’t make sense. The Kenny line seems to imply it had to do with injecting it wrong though, so the royal blood explanation is the least likely, especially because they’ve been passing the titan down through the royal family, and their mindless titans weren’t massive, same with Dina. Saying it’s not valuable strategically is crazy though. I know this is taking this idea to the extreme, and Zeke probably wouldn’t even do this, but they realistically could have had Zeke control multiple of these massive titans to function as a small scale rumbling against other nations. Just dropping one of them ontop of Fort Slava would have probably ended the conflict. The implication that Marley could have just had those Eldians drink the spinal fluid, had there spines broken and then have Zeke summon like 50 titans as big as Rod is just so ridiculous.

Also, I don't really think Kenny's a reliable narrator. He's guessing like us. In fact, we have more information then he does in that moment. So technically our guess is more informed then even his. Well I assume the royal family was always injecting themselves correctly. So I agree they wouldn't have accidentally done that. If you can't control it, it wouldn't be. I'd agree with you if you could control the titan though for sure. But because of how ambiguous it is, it's to up in the air if Zekes spinal fluid works the same as the Serum.

2nd Edit: The Christa book might be a 1984 type of retconning history. If you tell a children's story about NOT making deals with devils etc. And don't name drop "Ymir" you'd be less likely to mess up and have people remembering things from outside the walls. If they know the full Ymir story and true history they'd overthrow the king in a day. Devil story = Marlean perspective Goddess story = Eldian perspective (also Wall religion) Christa = super far removed children's retelling 3rd edit: I'm of the opinion that Shadis broke Erens device to keep him from being killed. Also, about 39:35, my interpretation was that the bottle is why the titan was huge. Rod was just stupid (or rather, didn't have the knowledge from the Founder to understand how all the bottles worked) and just chose the one he thought would give Historia the best chance of winning against Eren without thinking of any possible way it could backfire. After all, Rod is shown to be pretty short-sighted and delusional.

I think historia would have eaten eren regardless how her titan made contact with him, mainly because his will was to pass down the founding titan.
