Today its surfers and tourists, but in 1940 the Nazis had their maps and photographs ready for an invasion on the Land's End peninsula. Hitler knew the importance of the cable stations at Sennen and Porthcurno that connected Britain to her Empire. This video looks at the wartime defences built around Sennen and sees what remains of them today.
Are you able to add any more detail to what's known about the wartime defences of Sennen? Did any of your relatives serve there? Do you have any wartime photographs of Sennen's defences or their personnel? If so, please leave a comment.
The music featured is Wish me luck by Gracie Fields (1939), Bless Em All by Bertha Wilmott (1940), A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square by Elsie Carlisle (1941), When they sound the last all clear by Donald Peters (1942), Coming in on a wing and a prayer by Anne Shelton (1943), Lili Marlene by Marlene Dietrich (1944), There goes that song again by Adelaide Hall (1945), There'll always be an England/Abide with me by Massed Wartime Choirs.
