I grew up watching old classic Scifi movies, including all the original Japanese kaiju* movies. I was also drawn to reading comic books which lead to Manga and Anime that, especially with cyberpunk Anime, became culture-adjacent to the electronic music scene in the 1990s, back when I first started going to DNB club events and raves. It all still inspires me and influences much of my work today.
In classic scifi music, there's a particular sound I always love to hear: an eerie electric guitar "twang" and reverb, followed by a pluck echo. It was a very prominent, iconic sound in cinematic music produced for science fiction movies during the 1960s. I tried to recreate that sound in this track, as well as a classic kaiju cinema vibe for the video.
*Kaiju is the "Japanese term that is commonly associated with media involving giant monsters. The kaiju film genre is credited to tokusatsu director Eiji Tsuburaya and filmmaker Ishirō Honda, who popularized it by creating the Godzilla franchise and its spin-offs. The term can also refer to the monsters themselves, which are usually depicted attacking major cities and battling either the military or other creatures."
