The arty in the opening shot is, I'm pretty sure, a 155mm with a stainless steel barrel. We used these in the USMC in the 1980s.

The mortar team. 3:41 They're being directed means the enemy was very close by our ahead. 3:53. Doing their best to cover the GIs having to move forward to take ground. 6:09 the GIs right at that moment are thrown to the ground by rifle and machine gun fire. The combat reel man caught it as they were advancing.
