Sadly, no matter how many times people may watch this very eye-opening movie, it will never change anyone's mind about thinking for themselves. People (some people, not all y'all) love the short sound bites and getting riled up about some foreign enemy. Thinking, and digging for the real truth, is hard. you might say, it's nearly a lost art.

Hoffman and DeNiro switch roles here. Through most of the movie, DeNiro is the guy with all the answers, but suddenly he becomes on-his-heels-guy when Hoffman begins justifying his character's existence. Another movie from this period that does this: 'Good Will Hunting', between Sean and Will. They wait for each other to finish their monologues, which only _written_ characters do.

I find it uncanny how "Wag the Dog" anticipated the Slick Willie's actions of 1998 and '99. And I've wondered since, just who, in the Clinton administration, tipped off director Barry Levinson (or someone else involved in the production)about Monica Lewinsky, her black beret, and Clinton's subsequent plans to involve our U.S. military in the civil war in the Balkans. I'd be willing to bet that it was Stephanopolous, pissed off about being bounced out of the White House, who did the tipping.
