Fun day fishing lake ida with my buddy Johnny and Yames. Johnny is a licensed charter captain who specializes in freshwater species in South Florida such as Largemouth Bass, Peacock Bass, Clown Knife fish, Sunshine bass, and others. We used live shad to catch all our fish and kept a largemouth peacock bass and clown knife fish for dinner. Clown knife fish are often regarded as trash fish, but they are delicious if prepared properly. The traditional way to eat them is to scrape the meat off the fillet and use it to make dumplings, fish cakes or fish balls. We made them into hush puppies.

Peacocks were introduced by the FWC in Miami's canals to help clean out the other cichlids. Peacocks are not bass, but the largest of the cichlid family. Clown knife fish are considered an invasive species and if bow hunters can go in there and shoot over 100, invasive is the proper term. Technically it is illegal to throw an invasive fish back, you don't throw snake heads back, but throw back a clown, keep them both.

Bow fisher here. If the clowns are invasive and DNR wants them gone, we should clean house on them. Even if people love the fish. IMHO you should never release invasive species.

As a bow fisherman I agree to a certain degree, a lot of these invasive fish also don’t do as much damage as they seem, if these guys’ lively hood depends on a certain species regardless if it’s invasive it not, I say let so it responsibly like he said, I’m sure there’s a middle ground as far as harvesting them and leaving plenty for the guides

I know I am late to the scene in posting a comment but I am about to move to Florida. After watching first 90 percent of this video I was going to charter the capt you fished with. As soon as he said you can only catch and release with him, sorry but never going to call him. If I am a paying customer that should be my decision! Thank you for the video, it was great as always .

Thank you Brooke for not relocating or killing the raccoon. There is construction everywhere. Habitat is being destroyed and there are so many that end up being road kill. I used to relocate the ones around me but didn't want to break up a family like you mentioned.
@LuciusKyrus
@LuciusKyrus 3 жыл бұрын
Last I heard, it's Florida law that if you catch a Raccoon must kill it. You are not allowed to release it. If you catch a possum you are NOT allowed to release it on anyone else property without signed consent and never are you allowed to release them on public land. It is recommended that you kill them too. We are in no danger of running out of rabies carriers so ammo up and bust a cap in 'em. On the other hand, many people leave them in the trap and drop the trap in the water to drown them.
