Also a great way to show off my new Aristides Guitar. That low range of a 7-string ist just brutal. I love it.

Hi everyone! Never thought that this cover would do that well so thanks for all the views, likes and comments - it's greatly appreciated. :) I did get some comments about why my guitar isn‘t plugged in. So for clarification: My covers are always pre-recorded and double tracked. Because it sounds way better, you get a more precise tone and I personally don't like raw camera audio clips. I further refuse to plug a cable into my guitar to pretend that it's a live-cover when it clearly isn't judging by the place (my living room) and audio. @@DonnyJensen Hi Donny! I use a Kemper profiler. For this one I used a profile from the 'STL Tones Misha Mansoor Pack' which I tweaked to my liking (Adjusted the distortion, added a second gate and compression). Everything else was done in my DAW. I used the following EQ settings: low-cut between 150Hz and 200Hz. high-cut at around 8000Hz to 11000Hz. To get rid of the mud and sizzling I use a surgical EQ around 400Hz and 4000Hz. For covers like this or to just noodle around I always add a light chorus effect - this makes the overall tone less aggressive. This is definitely a taste-thing but I for one don't like tones that are too harsh. I should add that I've been working on this tone for probably over a year now and there's been a lot of bad settings along the way. I'm still tweaking it too! Hope this helps. Thanks!

Would love to see a cover once you have the riff down! I had to push the treble and especially presence quite a bit to make it less muddy. Or adjust it with an EQ if you work with a DAW. Have fun learning the riff!

Sure, I will try to walk you through but it’s a bit messy: Used a Profile from the Misha Mansoor Kemper Pack and tweaked it on the Kemper itself a bit (more gain and more treble) and added another gate. From there I double tracked the riff - this helps a lot with making it sound more full. In LogicX I EQd the guitars a lot. I always cut 2 to 3 db at around 400 Hz to get rid of the muddiness. I also cut 5 to 6 db at around 4K Hz to eliminate that fuzzing. I alway do these two cuts by the way - it really clears it up. Low cut at around 100 Hz so there’s no rumbling in the low frequency. Now this is a bit odd but I push the high frequencies (ca. 6K Hz and up) by 8 or 10 db because my guitar is tuned in Drop D (ADADGBE) and I used a drop tune pedal while recording. This makes the tone extremely dull so I push the high end to counter this. And to round it all up, which is a bit controversial, I added a chorus effect (stock plugin from Logic) to make the tone less aggressive. You either like the chorus effect or you don’t but I pesonally never liked that hissing aggressive guitar tone. Now keep it mind that I’m an amateur when it comes to this. I just tried stuff until it worked and I recommend you do the same! It’s also worth mentioning that this tone that I forged here really doesn’t work in a mix (I record my own riffs and ideas next to covers) but it really shines through in covers! The tone itself without anything else around also sounds a bit silly tbh. It’s the context of the song that makes it great. I can highly recommend that you double track a riff with some drums and bass in it before you judge the tone you created. Hope this helps! =) - Tobi

@@frankjefferies339 you are welcome! I see. If you don‘t work with a DAW / no digital EQ but still want to clean up your tone then I can recommend working with a distortion / drive pedal. I used the precision drive pedal in front of my mesa amp and regulated the gain with said pedal. Worked great too!

Hi there! I use 10-56 string gauge. I tuned the guitar in Drop D with the lower B string tuned to A. I then used the DropTune by Digitech to get to that low-tuning. Hope this helps!

@@alexrubio8106 Hi Alex! So I finally had time to look into it. The original tuning is "F A# F A# D# G C" so Drop F. Unfortunately you won't be able to play it on a 6 string (even with the Digitech Droptune) unless you physically tune your guitar to at least Drop B before you add the Droptune. But even then - I tried to transpose the notes but it's hardly playable. Next issue I see with this is the Droptune-Pedal. Love the pedal but if you go down that low, you get into the "woblwobl" territory and this usually doesn't sound that great (muddy and not enough highs). I'm not trying to discourage you! But I guess you will have more fun if you buy a 7-string for this one! :) Hope this helps. See ya!

It really is just practice! The goal is to repeat it so often that you don‘t actively have to think about it / „tell“ your fingers what to do. Takes some time but the process gets quicker the more often you do it 😁 keep at it man!

Hi! I‘m a big amateur myself regarding tone and especially mixing. So I‘m not sure if I‘m qualified to explain that. I could try to summarize my process though. I can tell you straight away that a lot of it comes from EQ. I used a tone from the Misha Mansoor STL Kemper pack and modified it slightly to my liking. Regarding EQ: I usually low-cut at ~150Hz and high-cut at ~9000Hz (depending on the tuning of the guitar). I then try to eliminate some of the mud at around 400-500Hz and the fizzling at around 3500-4000Hz. I do this with a surgical EQ. I can highly recommend you the JST KZbin Channel. The lovely gentleman named Miami explains a lot of those techniques in rather short videos. I got most of my „knowledge“ from this channel. It‘s probably worth mentioning that I EQ my guitars quite different depending on if it‘s a tone to just noodle around and do covers or if I intend to use the tone in an original piece with drums, bass, etc. My best advice is to watch the JST tutorials and try to follow the shown steps. Takes some patience but it‘s worth playing around with it. Hope this helps!

And they way the strings vibrate. Either it is sped up or filmed in terrible FPS paired with your somewhat off movements.
