@@IGF2011WA, Live Rock is for Reef and Marine Tanks. You should find a reliable source of Live Rock. I bought some for my Marine/Reef Tank many years back. I started to see my Clowns dead in the morning with red spots on some and just skeletons laying at the bottom of the Rocks. Here, these Live Rocks were not as clean as they were said to have been. At night, with the lights off and a red film on the flashlight... I just sat and watched my tank. All of a sudden, a Rock Anemone just shot up from the Rock and opened up and swallowed one of the Clown Fish. I was not aware that they were there nor what they were. Then, I saw these small pink worms crawl out from the Rock and started to enlarge with spikes. They intentionally floated up and hit my ClownFish. Within a few moments. My Clown was at the bottom of the tank and more of these pink spiked worms started to appear and started to eat my Clown. The next morning, I called the Fish store and they claimed that their Rocks were clean and that there no proof that it was their Rocks. I reported it to the BBS. This was before the internet. And. In fine print on their receipt said that they are not responsible once it leaves their store. Since, it you leave 1 cell of that Rock Anemone behind, it grows back. These pink worms... one called them Bristle Worms, another said that it must be one like the Bristle Worms... either way... I cold not save my tank, could I not get rid of them, either. I had to shut the tank down and kill the remaining Live Rock. No one wanted anything. If one cell of these Rock Anemones were among the good ones, it could contaminate their tank. I was just told to start over. I was told to be careful of where I get my Live Rock. Sadly, I thought that "Guaranteed Clean Rock" from a long standing well recommended Fish Store was trustworthy was safe. Someone along the process, took a cheap way out and was not clean as promised, and I got stuck... as did others like I did.

OK I got some rocks from the Dollar Tree they are really awesome. What do you recommend I do with them before I put them in my tank? They seemed like maybe they were in a tumbler. They are not really shiny but I see on a couple the water beads up like they may have some light polish on them. I was going to boil them on the store. I already sat them in hot water for over night and the water was dirty. Poured it off and now what do you recommend?

@purewater4all
@purewater4all 5 жыл бұрын
inventoryking You make a batch of oxidants, ozone, hydrogen peroxide and chlorine by running salt water through our hand held machine. Add one part solution to water and use this to disinfect by washing down the tank or rocks. Our product is able to kill all known bacteria and viruses known to man - naturally. This means those three oxidants that were created turn back to water and salt within a few days leaving no harmful residual.

@@inventoryking hehe thanks for the video though it helped alot. I put them in some hot-ish water from the water heater and left them a while, then took each of them (they were pretty small, like half the size of your hand each) and brushed each rock individually. The water turned really powdery during the soaking period and more stuff came off (yuck). The rocks then started to have colour, most of them have really nice whites with a few red/grey markings and they looked more like real stones now. They probably put the stuff to make the rocks look more white. I left them out to dry on newspaper and then used some vinegar (I don't have muratic acid cause my house isn't really a stocked house). Of course I wasn't taking risks so I let the rocks soak more for 2 weeks while changing the water every time I shower (I wasn't in a hurry to get them, I just wanted climbing stones for my turtle). Yesterday I put a rock in the tank of my brother's turtle (hah if his turtle dies at least mine doesn't) and it seemed fine. So I put the rest of them in my turtle's home (my bro's is still a little one, so it didn't need that many rocks, mine is full grown). They like it a lot I think, it keeps climbing up and off and kept observing the new stones like a world class geologist/petrologist. I sat with it throughout most of the night (for some reason it likes being awake at night) just to make sure nothing was wrong, then I took him out because I wanted to sleep and let my bro's turtle stay with it's rock overnight. This morning it's still alive so I suppose it should be okay. I'm just really confident it should be fine mostly because the rocks look like "real" rocks now due to the extra colours. So yeah I just wanted to give you a report because your channel seems to research and do this kinda stuff. Your video really helped me out BTW.
