Can anyone help me understand, in the second half wordier questions I understand it all up until the final step of adding 'the initial Day 1/2/3) part? Have we not already done that by tallying up the number of days/machines working that day and subtracting it from the days/hours of one person? I can't get my head round it? so the first step is always to times the top two numbers which are 8 and 9, so times them together and u will get 72, u pretty much got 1 mark for that so thats good, then after, it says on the first day, 3 machines are used, so u do 1 day = 3 machines 2 day = 6 machines it only goes up to 2 days, so u add both of them which gives u 9 machines, thats 3 marks uve got so its alr if u dont understand the next bit, so after what u do is, you take that number that u added which is 9 and then you do 72 subtract 9 and ye

For the 8 machines 9 days question what do you mean by 1 day= 3 days of work?
@TheGCSEMathsTutor4 жыл бұрын
In the first day 3 machines are used, so in terms of 1 machine running for 1 day and doing 1 days work, if 3 are running for that first day then it would equate to 3 days worth of work if only 1 machine was running 😁🙏🏼🙏🏼

I like the laid back modern R&B and jazzy music. You really have a wonderful format with nice explanations followed by 'you have a go' examples. This was a word salad, but broken down it really just involved basic arithmetic: 1st bit multiplying for one Worker or machine; second, adding days; then subtract the result from the multiplication number in 1st bit; then divide remaining days into that; and finally adding the number of days (in second bit) to the result of the final bit. Voila! Interestingly, the Persian founder of Algebra never used much numerals in his explanations but words. For maths is really just a language, but one with its own symbols and signs.

How do you know whether it is inverse or direct context?
@yourlocalpostman2 жыл бұрын
with inverse, the question would most likely ask you to work out "how long would x take in y time" whereas with direct it's likely related to money/weight. Also for inverse, as one variable increases, the other decreases. In contrast, with direct proportion, as one increases the other also increases (and vice versa)
