Well done MP, the insurance premiums is too high, it's due to private hospital overpriced fees and unnecessary procedure. The price of private hospital is really rediculos. For simple hand stitch in private hospital, I was quote for cost of RM15.000. (xray. Hospitalised n etc) and for the same procedure in government hospital it took only 1 hour and cost less then RM 500.

1) Disband LIAM and PIAM. They work like a cartel. Everyone just passed on the cost to consumers. 2) Health insurance needs to have ceiling pricing set by BNM. Not free range for insurance companies to price their plan. 3) Introduce NCD on health policies. 4) Investigate the rising cost of private hospitals. Healthcare and education is the best money making industry. Why BNM do not step in since insurance is under their purview?

I have a friend, his 80+ father was driving MYvi and had an accident. No physical injury. Went to clinic, 'no problem'. Next few days, he experienced abdominal pain, sent to Serdang Hospital, just prescribed pain killers and told to go home. 1 week later, abdomen swell, admitted into ICU, only to find out that his pancreas swell (internal injury from the accident), he passed away 2 days after ICU admission. Sometimes, full or unnecessary scans (though exorbitant fees) at private hospitals can detect this kind of unfortunate incident and perhaps save lives. Doctors, like any other profession, got good, bad, incompetent and crooks.

It is obvious private hospitals have been charging ridiculously excessive charges and unnecessary procedures to reap huge profits that contributed to this ever rising insurance premium that has to be borne by the consumers. In particular Assunta Hopsital, i vet thru the billings and saw doctors visitations were charged twice a day. When I asked the hospital they said its their SOP for doctors to do 2 visits per day regardless of how severe the patient is. This is daylight robbery because 1)its hard to ascertain whether the doctor actually visit the patient 2)it cost about 100 to 200+ per visit depending on weekends or PH. All they do during their visit is ask how is the patient doing!. MoH please do a thorough audit on all the private hospitals, especially Sunway!

All Insurance companies in Malaysia are making a loss for their medical insurance portfolio meaning the medical insurance products are making a loss for them. However they make a profit from other products like savings plans, Life insurance and so on. I know insurance companies will pay out whatever is contracted in the insurance policy as that is what I have witnessed, however sometimes for some additional claims that is not mentioned in the policy these insurance companies will not date to pay out. The reason is because the claims officer who approve such claims will have to be answerable to : 1. Internal auditors 2. External Auditors 3. BNM auditors 4. Their bosses 5. Police 6. Court As to why they pay out this amount of claims that is not covered under the insurance policy. Then the claims officer who approve it will then have to go to jail for CBT or some other reason like misuse of public funds. Put yourself in the shoes of the claims officer, would you dare to approve such a claim or not ?

Both private hospitals and medical insurance providers are motivated by one word: greed. Medical insurers will haggle down the price with the hospital, hence hospital charges extra high price for insured patients to be able to earn a profit. And round and round the merry go round we go . Prices keep increasing, their profit keeps going up .. but we're paying more and more .

I think in the long run, Gov should have a public insurance system, probably enhance the program under PERKESO, where all gov hospital now are not free, but claim from PERKESO. In other words, gov hospital operates like semi-private entity with reasonable profit. This way, gov hospital can improve their gaji, staff retention and cost management, thus be the benchmark for setting private hospital service prices. All warganegara have to subscribe to the insurance, those who cannot afford, government can subsidize through madani programs. The premiums can be charged according to income, just like PERKESO does now.
