In Georgia we had both Long John Silver's and Captain D's. I don't know if the Captain is a national chain or not - but when I was in high school I worked at Captain D's and about a mile up the road there was the Long John Silver's. At night, about an hour before closing, we would call down to LJS and barter with their closing crew for items off their menu and we'd give them items off ours that were left over. I always preferred LJS shrimp over CaptD's - because LJS batter dipped their shrimp, and we bread crumb dipped out shrimp - so one of their crew members would roll up to our drive-thru and after we'd say the welcome greeting "Hello, welcome to Captain D's. Do you have any discounts or coupons today?" - their crew would say "We got the goods." - and then we would say "Ok, drive around."........they would drive around, and we'd already have a bag full of our cheese cakes with the strawberry sauce ready to go. It would be a 2 second exchange - out the drive through window our CaptD's bag would go with the cheese cakes, and back in through the window the bag would return but it would instead have a box full of batter dipped shrimp in it. I'd walk it over to the counter area that the camera didn't cover, and put it under the counter there to wait til we got off the clock and we'd all chow down on the SUPERIOR shrimp. .....but other than their shrimp, yeah that would be a big pass for most people *EDIT - LJS chicken planks are way better than CaptD's chicken, this is true too lol - (side note: Captain D's we called the little crunchy fried bread pieces "cracklins" - so you can ask for an order of "cracklins" and they give you a whole clam shell container of them) .....Captain D's is fast food seafood king LONG LIVE THE CAPTAIN (ah....high school memories. Sometimes for kicks I used to also answer the drive through that last hour of the night with an accent that wasn't the nicest if I think back on it now haha, and suggest that we didn't have any more fish left but we had cat instead.....when that father and son rolled around to the window to get their order they were rolling with laughter, not expecting such entertainment at the drive through window that late at night....................once I got tired of the drive through alarm going off in my headset while I was talking to the current person at the box, so I turned the alarm off....but I forgot to turn it back on, and about 10min later, I looked up and the drive through line was out of the parking lot into the street about 20 cars deep. THAT wasn't a fun night for me but funny in hindsight :)

LJS used to be great, kids meals came in a treasure chest, they served beer on tap and they gave away free Captains Hats. Then locations disappeared. Now my fiance and I take a trip to the nearest location and share a platter .

Crema does mean cream in Spanish. It's a little hard to explain but it's a mix between sour cream and plain greek yogurt. It's not sour, nor is it sweet it's neutral and add SO much yessss to dishes. Check a Latino/Mexican import store!

Where I live we have a ton of long John silvers locations that do pretty well. They get alot of hate but really. It's nostalgic to me. It is greasy though but sometimes it hits just right.

I haven't been to an LJS in years but loved it when I was in high school, mainly because it was different from the regular burger joint. I remember their value meals were super expensive compared to Micky D's etc. so it was a real splurge to go there. And I liked how they had bottles of malt vinegar if you dined in. They didn't have the fish tacos back then (or at least where I lived) but it looked pretty good in this video. (The fish taco sauce is often times called "Baja Sauce" BTW). LJS is trashy seafood, but in the good way.

I’m sure fish & chips has less calories, fats ect than a say a McDonald’s, KFC meal. In NZ we have so many fish and chips places. Out Ling John silvers used to give you a choice of crumbs, batter or plain grilled and we got yummy salads too!

I worked at an LJS across from a Catholic Church in 1990. It was always busy. My manager was a beautiful red-headed little person named Drusilla. It was an awesome job. The downside was having to replace your shoes every couple of months. There was no way to get the fish grease funk off of them.

It used to be better. I worked there 14 years ago as my first job, it's all fried, literally all of it. It was a bit better when I started and by the time I quit it really started to go down hill and they made cheap ingredients cheaper. It also depends on if you get it fresh or not, almost always they just let it sit all day as no one ever comes in .

Also, the salmon was always there. We would sell two a day. They just sit in hot water all day in a vacuum sealed bag as does the corn. Probably the same deal with applebee's now that I think about it. Fish tacos are the best on the menu but they were removed from a lot of menus. Really the only good option and the orange "baja" sauce is amazing with the chicken.

They have their own record label and make us listen to long john silvers themed Christmas music now. Don't support them for lent plz support your local firestations and churches. You do realize that all those restaurants you listed (Long John Silvdr, KFC, Taco Bell, etc.) are all owned by the same corporation? I think it used to be Yum Brands. Btw, Omaha has a new lobster roll shop. It's called 'Raegans Lobster Roll'. It's in the Inner Rail food hall, in Aksarben, if you ever find yourself over this way. It's overrated, so be prepared lol, but it's indeed a lobster roll, can confirm.
