Akhil bhaiya few question for you- if I have a option to change my undergrad branch from E.E to B.S Economics which is the closest thing to finance here in IIT ... Do you think it will give an leverage to get through CFA levels and also aid in placements?? Also this branch has a easier curriculum to get a good CGPA. But this is a non circuital branch so will it be a drawback?I am also doing a Minor in CSE. 2)Is it better to learn valuations, Advanced excel, financial modelling courses say from NSE in undergrad itself if I have time? 3)Also these days in MBA placements( IIM A,B,C) for IB in bulge bracket, a good percentage of people ( NON CAs) have a work experience of 1-2 years in global firms,, so do you think its better to fight to get into a top finance firms as a technical analyst in undergrad , work for a year, then try CAT and get into IIMs? Kriti Some responses to your questions 1. CFA has different curriculum and there are many resources available to aid in preparation. So no need to choose a branch for aid in CFA. You should choose a branch which interests you and also which is good in terms of CGPA and placements. You can do CFA and take other elective courses to build your profile 2. Yes that would be a value add to your profile and very relevant to IB 3. Given the uncertainty in CAT these days, I suggest you give CAT every year to increase your chances. You can decide between placement and CAT if you are able to secure a convert in IIM. But having a relevant finance experience in IIM will definitely give you an edge. It will also help build your profile during entry interviews of IIM as well.

@@theiitiimguy8372 Akhil bhaiya I have observed on Linkedin that a good no of people who are not from IIMs e.g MBAs from MDI Gurgaon, Narsee monjee or SJMSON and belonging to tier 2,3 undergrad colleges, not a cfa level 2 qualified and with no experience in finance are getting recruited by JP morgan, etc for IB analyst roles, whereas in IIM ABC there is cut head competition between the gold medalists, CA rankers etc and still they don't make it. Why is there such a huge gap between the credentials in both kind of mba colleges is it because they have to select the best from whatever the average credentials of the batch is holding? Also is there a salary difference offered in IIMs and the rest of the mba colleges for Investment banking to compensate for the merit?

@@ishan6870 Usually in IB for the front end roles, the recruitment is done from IIM ABC. The colleges u mentioned are usually visited for middle / back office roles in IB. There is a lot of difference between salary and work profile in front end and back end roles. But there is always a possibility to relocate from back end role to front end role if you are able to perform well in back end role and able to convince the team that you would be able to do good in front end as well.

Hi Karanpreet - usually, distance MBA and certifications by itself may not land you an IB job. You may want to get some work ex in financial research, or other similar fields and then gradually move ahead into IB.
