The first time we had tried, we invested €14,000 and after a week we received €50,230. That really helped us a lot to pay our bills.

Thanks Tom, what about in the case that the investment broker removes taxes before pay-out. How do we go about that
@thetomcrosshill23 күн бұрын
In some countries such as Germany, Austria and Denmark local brokers take care of all taxes for local tax residents. In most countries, you still have to declare and pay your own taxes. Brokerages also usually take so-called "withholding taxes" - for example, if I invest in US stocks and get dividends, the broker will withhold tax on behalf of the US - but I still have to pay tax locally!

@thetomcrosshill thank you. That clarifies it

@thetomcrosshill i really like your content, and I see a lot of content about starting early but I can only spare around 100 euros per month to investing(meaning I can't afford to pay for your course right now). What can I do if I want to start small
@thetomcrosshill20 күн бұрын
@@Chinedu311 No worries - I would read "The Little Book of Common Sense Investing" by John C. Bogle, then use a low cost brokerage and start making some first investments. If you comb through all my ETF and tax and brokerage videos, that should give you a good start!

For someone living in Germany like the example of your video, dividends on ETFs which don't distribute them but re-invest them instead, of course aren't declared and subsequently aren't taxed, correct? As one wouldn't actually have any tangible income from that form of dividend
@thetomcrosshill20 күн бұрын
I can't give tax advice, only comment generally. In Germany accumulating funds are taxed when sold. But there is also the vorabpauschale prepayment tax which is payable on accumulating funds which is not tied to the actual amount of reinvested dividends but to a theoretical yield from the fund. German brokerages calculate this automatically in most cases.

@thetomcrosshill I see, thank you for the reply

@@thetomcrosshill I think the law changed in 2024, you will pay taxes on unrealised capital gains, I think at a lower rate but still. Meaning that even if you don't sell your accumulating ETF you will be taxed annually. It is called "Vorabpauschale" and is just a prepayment, later when you sell the ETF, already paid Vorabpauschale is deducted. I recommend using brokers that take care of that burden for you automatically in Germany like Trade Republic.
