The barbarians have arrived... may the gods have mercy on us! 14,000 troops take part in this massive siege engagement. Indypride and myself have to fight a desperate defense of retreat and regrouping all the way back to the acropolis itself

Really awesome video, probably your best yet! I really enjoy the collaborations you do with Indypride; you two are amongst my favourite total war youtubers. A defence of Rome as the Romans? Maybe a siege battle with no offensive artillery, so a fight for the walls is viable.

So about the Acroolis and the Parthenon. The acropolis is the big castle like building in the center. The acropolis was built as city defences. The parthenon is the Temple of Athena on top of the Acropolis. It's called Parthenon becasue Parthena means virgin, and the god Athena was believed to be a proud virgin...

Forgive me for assuming the mantle of Captain Buzzkill for a second, but wasn't Ancient Athens supposed to be further inland? Shouldn't it have had the Long Walls connecting it to the port town of Piraeus, which was seated on the coast?

This is actually very inspiring for writing big battles, or even for modeling them. And when one takes into account it's a simplified urban layout, that in real life multiple troop types could be together instead of same-type battalions...Awesome.

Really like the battle but your left flank collapsed not only because of too few men but because his line was positioned far too forward. He should have pulled them back into the street where they couldn't get flanked so this front would've held out way longer

I've wondered why scorpions aren't deployed on the tops of the outer walls, hidden in towers, till the tops are full of troops and then just "mow the lawn" from each side? Also if they are cheap I think I'd have some on the top of every flat high building with some defensive units around those positions? Also what about additional generals cavalry's? How many generals can you have?

Really enjoyed this battle, especially with the rule set up. If the attacker and defender have the same funds its just to easy in my opinion for the latter. We had a lot of battles in cities with greek / roman architecture. What i would like to see is, to describe a theme for the fight, a battle of Alesia kind of siege. A roman force in a barbarian town, also caesar didn't possess Alesia, but i hope you get what i mean, defending the town against a massive gallic or germanic force. Gallic would be historically more correct of course. That would be something different i think and bring a little bit variety.

id like to see some sort of defense with pontus/egypt/seleucyds where you get some chariots into your army and just let em pull through a big road like in the athens map right there, as if they would be like a trap. after all the killing and finally coming through, just a chariot rolling straight through the streets mawing down the unbraced troops would just be hillarious :D (maybe not for the poor person fighting them, but hey). as the attacker barbarian faction i like a lot or maybe even rome. keep up the good work ^^

Real pity City Citadel cannot be manned, especially Rome where the Capitoline hill was the only bastion for defenders when the Gauls sacked the city. Another major problem is the position of the Victory point Flags, sometimes undefendable. Apart from those issues, great battle. You should have tried to hide behind corners more. Love to see large Rome defense.

Related to other sieges, something like the battle of Alesia might be cool? The Gauls aren't exactly a defensive faction, so it'd be a challenge to try and hold off the sturdy romans in a defensive fight.
@hippyjoe
@hippyjoe 9 жыл бұрын
I made, on Rome I, the 300 hundred Spartans battle variation for myself, and it was all Pikes. Let me tell you, phalanxe kills EVERYTHING. Especially Macedonians, they've some huge spears.Spartan units have alot of health which allows them to close in so quickly without much loss, and wreak havoc, because Macedonians have less HP than them, and work better at distance. However, the actual battle against the Persians,was so close because the Phalanx always failed due to Elephants. Persians won.
@AppleGamingLukas
@AppleGamingLukas 8 жыл бұрын
There were no elephants. They had around 7k militia men. Not 10k. The spartans had more then 300 around 700 carthaganian hoplites and 500 spartans.

Those reserves are tactical reserves. Strategic reserves would be if you had another army stationed in another city. Tactical refers to small scale operations in the immediate area. Strategic is long term, usually over a wide area, continents, countries, etc.

In the late 4th century BC, Rhodes, allied with Ptolemy I of Egypt, prevented a massive invasion staged by their common enemy, Antigonus I Monophthalmus. In 304 BC a relief force of ships sent by Ptolemy arrived, and Antigonus's army abandoned the siege, leaving most of their siege equipment. To celebrate their victory, the Rhodians sold the equipment left behind for 300 talents[4] and decided to use the money to build a colossal statue of their patron god. got this off of wikipeidia You should have a siege of Rhodes if they have it as a siege map. And have Macedon be attackers and Egypt with a random city state defend. :P
