A major reason why shows nowadays takes longer to be produced and released is due to changes in writer and production unions fighting for better quality work, which none of us have a right to argue against. Another thing is just that the landscape of tv is different, more money would be put on a small number of specific shows proven to create profit whilst nowadays with a rise of streaming the aim is to create as many shows possible until something booms. There are a lot more reasons for why it takes longer but these are just two I felt were easy enough to mention.
