Mark holds up better against Nolan this time because he's learned how to fight people with strength comparable to viltrumites. He focuses way more on avoiding or deflecting hits instead of just being aggressive like he was during their first fight. He also knows Nolan's objective, the same as in their first fight, to make Mark see things his way. So he does everything in his power to lead him away from the city. He knows he can't win, so he takes them to the people Nolan himself admitted had the best chance against him. Omni-man killed most of them while they were in shock seeing their teammates killed, but this time Mark is able to take and block hits in their place. He plays everything to his advantage and it's so fun to read. I'd be fun to see an entire short side series exploring this, seeing how the rest of the story would've played out if Mark had chosen to stay. A "what if" storyline that handwaves away the fact that there's no way Mark would've stayed.

If he stayed he knew he could do so many good things, but at the same time he would lose his opportunity of being with Eve and therefore his daughter would’ve never been born, Mark knows he is being selfish by deciding to go back to his timeline, that’s what at the end of this mini arc he declares he really isn’t a hero, because a hero would’ve sacrificed his well-being in order to change the future, but Mark decided to not do so.

The reason mark ultimately chose to abandon this timeline for his old one is a mix between fear that eve and him will never get together, and more importantly his daughter terra never being born. Even if he and eve did get together and have a kid again. To him, it wouldn't be terra regardless of its gender or looks. Its the old trope where a parent says "i wouldn't't give you up for the world". But instead of just saying it, mark actually does choose his daughter over all the lives that he could've saved in this new timeline. Keep in mind, this also includes the lives he could save by stopping the viltrumite empire earlier and ironically the lives of most viltrumites, not just human lives. He chose his daughter over a whole new and (objectively speaking) better timeline. Which i find kind of ironic when you put it into contrast of eve aborting their first baby.

I'm getting sick and tired of seeing Omni Man tearing up Immortal! Can't Immortal get some kind of a boost as in how Yellow Solar Radiation gives Superman a boost? I'd like to see Omni Man get impaled or torn in half at least once!

I'm surprised after Nolan pummeled him into the side of what use to be a mountain....he said everything else but every parents most iconic fear inducing line.. "I Brought you in this world and I'll take you out" but instead saw the damage he had done pulled back in tears that not even a father today would shed for his child after beating his child into a near coma cause his son was so naive to the truth.
