should i be sketched out when a dentist tells me 6 months for invalisng vs others saying 18 months? my assumption is that moving too fast would be more painful and require more ipr.

Overall, no. It's not about moving the teeth too fast. The rate of changing aligners doesn't vary that much, no not more painful. Orthodontics is a science and an art. There are different approaches and different levels of complexity/correction for each patient. I would ask WHY one dentist thinks 6mo and WHY the other says 18mo. I bet the dentists are thinking of two different ways to treat.
