Your solo sounds so spontaneous and from the heart. It's giving me a new perspective on improvisation. Thanks!

I heard this song years back on a public radio show. I've only heard the version once, and can only describe it as a faster tempo (faster than I usually hear it I mean) with spacey sounds thrown in. I know that's a weird description, but it's all I have. Sometimes, like now, it'll cross my mind and I'll hunt for it, but I've never been able to find it.

I've had that experience too, and often can't find the recordings I'm looking for. However, the more important point is that it's in your mind, and you can let it come out in your own playing. Good luck!

Just starting this video, but really if you are a jazz educator, you might want to know that Bossanova rhythms are from Brazil and mambo is from Cuba. It’s pretty important to keep those two styles distinct instead of referring them in this very generalized sense as Latin rhythms. Just like you would want to identify the harmony of a tune accurately. It’s important to identify the rhythmic signature accurately

Thanks and great point! Of course you're correct. In a sense, though, I'm really trying to get the viewer to start asking these questions for themselves and dig deeper for themselves, rather than spoon feed them everything. I'm showing them how I think and invite them to think for themselves too. Much appreciated and good luck with your music!

Great playing. And speaking of letting the music flow, your latest newsletter really got me thinking. The idea that we all have access to note-perfect performances, and that becomes our impression of how pieces should be played. But the musicians I admire didn't see it that way, they would watch their idols playing live, and performances were full of mistakes. Really opened my eyes to just enjoying playing and not worrying about getting everything perfect. Thanks for the cool message!

This is exactly right, Eric! It shows us how backwards the whole musical world is nowadays.

Thank you Ron. I really enjoy listening to your thoughts on these tunes. Your interpretation is so nice. Like so many jazz tunes that I like, I 1st heard a instrumental version of Invitation with no idea there were even lyrics. Then years later I ran across the “Nightclub” alblumn by Paricia Barber. Love that version also. Thanks again.

Thanks Chris, and I'm glad you're enjoying these. Patricia Barber is wonderful, and it's great that you're discovering these great tunes. Good luck!

Ir is important to mention the composer Bronislau Kaper, also the composer of On the Green Dolphin Street, one of the most played tunes. Fernando

Hi Gerardo - thanks for asking, but unfortunately my Zoom teaching schedule is full right now. You may enjoy my video course at keyboardimrpov.com. The lessons there will get you improvising fluently and increase your musical understanding.

I think Oliver Nelson arranged the version of the song on Quincy Jones' Quintessence.
