the big guy probably only moves towards your wagon at night (thats the blood moon on the bottom left of the clock), which is why the game has loading screen tips/signs ingame warning you how night time invites monsters when its not night he seems to either walk a certain distance away from the cart, or flat out stops moving (assuming a player doesn't attract aggro)
