As someone who didn’t get diagnosed with OCD until I was 46, and who CLEARLY has ptsd as well. ERP therapy just does NOT seem logical to me.. I feel like it can inadvertently retraumatize people with an equal balance of affects from each disorder. After years of suffering, I’ve become my own Best Expert, tbh 🙂 I have found though, that CBT and ACT are such WONDERFUL therapies! ❣️

Yes being your own expert is so right ! I've suffered since age 11 over 35 years . I visited a doctor for the very first time who put me on a help program which made me even worse than before :(

PTSD does not necessarily need to be solely caused by a “life-threatening event.” In some cases PTSD can absolutely come from longterm psychological, verbal or emotional abuse (CPTSD or complex trauma.) Or even secondhand trauma. While these events may not be considered life-threatening, they’re still traumatic.

I developed ocd at 14, starting not touching door handles etc. Then at 16 I saw a girl get stabbed and killed. With in 2 years ocd had me house bound and unable to eat. I had treatment with no effect for ocd for years. I never mentioned what had happened until I was 30. Then I was diagnosed with ptsd as well. I’ve had two lots of therapy for ptsd and it has made a difference to the ocd that other therapy didn’t help.

Actually, criterion A "exposure to actual or threatened death, serious injury or sexual violence in one (or more) of the following ways" can be experienced by #3 "learning that the traumatic event(s) occurred to a close family member or close friend. Therefore, as I understand it, the event doesn't have to directly have happened to you.

If one were going to Oconomowoc, having cormorbid disorders of this nature, would one go to the trauma center or the OCD center and would either be able to help the one they didn’t go to?

This PHD person tries to differentiate OCD and PTSD while this lady understands there is a direct correlation between the two. I have been diagnosed with OCD, many years back later on when the physiologists dived deep into my childhood. My childhood traumas(complex PTSD) were the direct reason for the OCD behaviors and rituals. OCD did not fall from the sky.. It is a clear fact that it came most likely from your traumas.
