THERE IS NO STICKY TAPE - THERE IS FOAM THAT HOLDS IT TIGHT IN THE BOX DO IT DOES NOT RATTLE AROUND. MAKE SURE YOU USE SOMETHING ON THE NEW BATTERY TO MAKE SURE IT IS NOT MOVING AROUND IN ITS HOLDER. As many have said before, the battery comes out the bottom, absolutely no need to open the main panel or pry the top off the battery compartment. This is literally a 2 minute job. 4 screws on the bottom, slide the battery out, disconnect wires, connect wires for new battery, slide new battery in, 4 screws. Done.

You dont have to pry the the glued mdf board off. You unscrew four screws on the bottom then gently drop the ion block rocker about 4 inches from the ground the battery will push the plate off and drop enough to get your fingers on it and pull it out.

The internal particle board battery cover was a little more firmly in place on mine (glue and staples, I realized later) so I struck the bottom of the battery (from underneath) and it knocked the cover right off, no tears or even bent staples. Then back to your method. Thanks again for the video.

I took out the 4 screws on the bottom, removed the cover and there was the battery. Amazon has various batteries under $20. I received one fully charged. I had to put some thin cardboard pieces around the sides to keep the new battery from moving around but so far so good.

Well... I suppose that you could take the whole thing apart and pry that battery compartment cover off... Or you could just open the access panel on the bottom and pull the battery out

I got a used one can you tell me why when plugged in I can hear the radio for a second then it stops everything is still lit up and I can change the channel but no sound.??????

Could you use the unit without replacing the battery? What would happen if you connected the two battery leads? Explosion? Nothing? Work just fine? Just wondering, but too chicken to try it.

Thanks for the video, mine takes ages to charge up, after 12hrs, it goes to three power lights but then the 3rd (full power) light fades out to the 2nd light. I've not used it for a while so may have self drained the battery, as when I did last use it it didn't last many hours so I ended up plugging it in (where it would be charging as well). I'm still under extended warranty, is it worth just letting them fix it?

With my thrift-store purchase ipa88 Tailgater Flash, I didn't need to remove the back plate. After removing the battery cover plate, the battery just fell right out when I set the unit upright.

The battery is replaced from the bottom. There is no need to take the whole unit apart. Just remove the 4 screws from the bottom, leave one partially in so you can grab the panel then tilt and shake the speaker and the battery should come out the bottom.

Hey great video. I have replaced the battery, but still won't charge. Works great plugged in but no power coming from battery. Volt meter reads it has a charge but tailgater won't/can't use the power from it. I bypassed the battery's inline 3A fuse and still nothing. Could it be the transformer? when troubleshooting, I flicked the switch from 110v to 240v (dumb ass move, i know) but would that fry the whole thing or just the battery ability to charge? because it still works when plugged in.

Same thing happened to mine. Checked battery and fuse. Both were good. My problem was the power switch itself. It wouldnt connect the battery to the board when flipped on. But would still power on if plugged in. Replacing the switch is a pain in the ass since its cemented to the box with a mountain of crap. So i just bypassed it and shorted the red battery wire directly to the board. But that doesnt drain the battery bevause if you cut away all the black wrap youll see that the switch has 2 sides. One is true on off which is why it still works plugged in, the other side is battery connection... which is already shorted anyway! But with a resistor limiting voltage to half volt. That means its ok to short it out. Anyway i bypassed the switch and im not losing any battery life when off. So. Easy fix is short battrey directly to circiut board or have fun getting that switch out to replace it.

Me too, it was because one of the wires came unplugged between the charge dock on/off switch and the charge port (on top) for the phone. Not much slack in there so it's easy to yank loose.

Also, my battery was just dead...Got a new one for about $15...Easy as pie to switch out, just remove the plate on the bottom and it'll fall right out...

I removed my battery without having to take off the board covering the battery from the inside of the unit. The problem with mine was it would work when plugged in, but not work on battery or charge. The solution was the red wire that connects to the battery has a 250v 3.15A fuse that was blown. It is under the black heat shrink tube. I went to radio shack purchased an 250v automotive fuse holder and used a 3A fuse and all is working now.

well depending how much time you would be willing to put in it, you could drill a hole in that back plate and hook up leads to it so your external battery charger could just hook up to the back to charge it the same way the old built in charger did, just bypassing the old one. that way you dont have to open it every time you need to charge the battery. otherwise if you dont want to spend that much time doing it youd probably be better off just buying a whole new one. youd be better off getting a whole brand new one than paying the company 100 dollars just to fix that

I don't know why you didn't just take off the screws from the bottom turn it upside down shake it. Mine came right out very easy. Maybe yours was stuck or something I don't know. The wires were long enough to come out with it. Disconnected wires. Put in the new battery. Walla. Sometimes things are a little bit different I understand and sometimes they don't just slide out like mine did. I said amen.

As you can see from the dozens of comments, this guy is doing it wrong. Just remove the bottom panel only. The battery slides right out. No need to take the back panel off or pry up the interior particle board.
