This is hands down Apple’s worst year for software updates; everything is either delayed, buggy or not being released outside of US. I hope they get their act together in 2025, because this year’s offerings were pathetic.

What are you talking about? Nothing has been delayed, everything except Apple Intelligence and Hearing Protection has been released worldwide. 18.2 is coming in a week, released in a variety of English dialects worldwide except for EU and China, where those governments have caused it to be held back. More languages early in the new year, and the EU gets it in the spring. Even without AI, there’s plenty of cool features, some of which, like mail categorization, are ML driven. This has been an awesome year for Apple software releases - lots of innovative, practical and very useful features that I use every day, and which save me a lot of time and effort.

Brandon, I have a crazy AirTag story for you. On the 30th November 2024, one of my repeat scuba divers had just finished his last dive from his trip…so,I was emptying his weight pouch from his BC, when an AirTag fell out. It’s been inside his weigh pouch for 18 dives, at his deepest depths to over 70 feet…when he got back to his hotel, he used his phone to locate the AirTag , and it still works..

For the 17, I am worried about the aluminum frame and being so thin. Last time this happened the phones bent and the glass cracked; titanium is best. If they can make a phone thats thin without bending would be perfect! Great update, as usual, Brandon!! Chuck

Never even started using it. Deleted it within 30 seconds of the initial download. Also the fact chatGPT images are broken must be something to do with Apple/Siri. If you have the standalone ChatGPT app it works fine, even on my iPhone 13! Which of course doesn’t have AI. Not that I’m really interested. Also ChatGPT doesn’t mind the use of brands or names of people (well dead people anyway) which I have heard Image playground doesn’t like. So if you ask for a picture of Abraham Lincoln driving a Porsche 911, that’s what you’ll get. Personally I have no use for any of this rubbish.

I’m running 18.1.1 on an iPhone 11 Pro-still, since updating to 18, my Focus Modes have been broken. The correct ones no longer turn on automatically, and they are no longer attached to the lock screens I picked for each one, despite re-assigning them after the update. I like the new features, but it’s annoying having these automatic workflows I’d established no longer work. Almost feels deliberate but I get the vibe that Apple is spread thin and scattered right now.

I’m getting the impression that Apple is way behind on a whole lot of things in the tech world. I’m also questioning if they will even be in existence in the next decade. Google’s Gemini seems to be miles above Siri and the A.I. portion of it seems to be ahead of Apple Intelligence as well. I guess time will tell. By the way, I am using a 15 Pro on iOS 18.1.1 which is the latest public release from Apple.

Nothing could be further from the truth. While Gemini and Google’s offering are dependent on a giant, cloud-based AI service that sucks up money and energy, Apple Intelligence and Siri are designed to be on-device. While AI currently uses the Private Cloud Computer environment to run larger models, in a few years, as hardware technology continues to improve, Apple will be able to move everything on-device and eliminate the need for the PCC. Additionally, as app developers update their apps to use Assistant AppIntents to make their apps’ functionality and content available to Siri and AI, even helper extensions, like ChatGPT, will be replaced. The APIs for those AppIntents is included in 18.2, so the coming few months should be really exciting as apps are updated and Siri acquires new capabilities from them. Not to mention, the immense impact that personal context will have.

Awesome Brandon, great video, definitely surprised to hear you don’t think image playground is for daily or common use, again I haven’t tried it but I would assume it can be very helpful for creative work, especially since I have heard a lot of people use ChatGPT’s image creation more commonly, so apple’s version being free made me assume it would be very useful, so interesting for sure. Also the 17 Air leaks definitely seem like the craziest leaks I have ever seen for a iPhone in a while, wonder what the final product will actually look like , because apple changing the camera like that will be a really unique move from them for sure-Otherwise love your content Brandon-Keep going!

On 18.2 betas there is a second box black in colour that appears say if you want to search for a contact, as soon as you start typing this box appears. It appears in many applications as soon as you want to input using the keyboard. IPhone 15 pro max. I hope this is solved in the next update release.

Even after updating to the 18.2 beta my 16 Pro Max still has issues with the following: - Screen responsiveness. doesn't respond to input, or it lags. - Due to the above issue, the keyboard is laughably inaccurate. The space bar half the time doesn't register so I have to erase entire messages to re do them. - Autocorrect? lol nope. it works correctly about 50% of the time. and when it recognizes a mistake, the odds are even lower that it will replace whatever it is with the correct spelling - The Camera Control button us useless. A part of me thinks that's there the touch issues are coming from. whenever you brush up against the control button, the phone thinks you want to use it so it disables the screen for a few milliseconds. but that's just long enough to cause the above issues. - as nice as the cameras are, they aren't that much better than my older 14 Pro Max. - Bluetooth connectivity stops working at times. my apple watch 9 has been ok, but my airpods will be recognized and 'connected', but then I can't use them until I restart the phone. it's been an absolute joke for me lol so far, the 16 PM is the worst iPhone I've ever owned.

I can't understand how influential KZbin content creators don't mention about the touch sensitivity issues on iPhone 16 Pro Max series. I have returned 3 three iPhone 16 Pro Max phones, the fourth one still has this issue with a screen protector. I have never experienced this kind of issue on any previous iPhone I owned. It is obviously a general iPhone 16 PM problem.

The point is to create AI images for free as many times as you like. Currently you can do that on ChatGPT but only 2 a day before you have to pay. Image playground is apples version and it’s free. Now not only that but with image playground you can add yourself inside the AI images as well, making it more personal. Now the main point is I guess it could be useful for images for creative work and other things, again I have to see when it releases.
