Been watching videos for a while now.... As a fellow dairyman,, I want to express my gratitude that you have the patience to educate the public...... I'm a traditional dairy.... Spend my life around chores and parlor time.... Missed out on a lot of family functions..... If I was younger...... I know I would be investing in robotics....... You are correct that the next generation will be more apt to join the farm instead of running as far from it as they can get....... My thoughts have changed drastically about technology..... As I have a lot of time to think about things being the only person that wants to be at the barn..... Good luck with your endeavors..... Can't wait to see what the next generation can accomplish.

I've only just discovered you, and loving it. I have friends that acquired ruminants with the small block of acreage they bought. Got a panicked phone call one evening that the cow seemed unwell and they just realised one of the sheep had lost all it's top teeth. It was very hard to calm them down whilst NOT laughing.

Great information. I adore cows. My late papa was a farm equipment mechanic at Van Warmerdams dairy in Galt Calif for over 15 years. I was allowed to go help bottle feed the calves in my teenage years. I was also lucky enough to watch many calvings. I am a country girl STUCK in the city.

Thanks for your cow videos. My maternal family had been cow farmers in western France as far back as the 1600’s. Not sure if they were diary farmers but I do know they had lots of cows. Always liked cows and now I know much more about them. Thanks.

I've truly enjoyed all of your videos! I never would have guessed that there was so much to dairy farming or how sophisticated it has become. I always smile when I see you have a new video. Keep up the good work. I do have a few questions: 1. How much are cows creatures of habit? Do they go to the same robot every time for milking? Do they return to a certain stall, or just lay down in any space open? 2. Is your dog Toby ever allowed in the house after being in the cow barn. 3. How much do you have to take off before you're allowed in the house?

Remember learning in dental school that the limiting factor for Herbivore lifespans is how long they have teeth. Elephants can only live to be 50-60 years old because that's when they lose or wear out the last of their teeth. And we've prolonged the lifespan of horses by filing their teeth evenly so they don't wear out too fast and last longer. So, don't look a gift horse in the mouth, just accept the gift gratefully.

Thank you for taking the time for making these informative videos. Dairy farming and the day in a life of your cows is fascinating to this city girl. Why do you call some cows by number and others by their tag number? Do the cows return to the same stall or do they just take a random stall? How often do the cows get a bath in the summer? Thanks again for your videos. Susan

Cows can live for over 20 years but on commercial farms the age at slaughter varies considerably. Farms with poor management, high- yielding cattle or high disease rates will slaughter their animals at a much younger age, normally after four lactations (around 5-6 years old), but sometimes after 2 or 3.
@secretsquirrel7374 Жыл бұрын
Why would they do that? One of Dan's cows is having its 13th calf this year. They often don't even have their first calf until they're 2 anyway.

As a very proud British beef and sheep farmer I can honestly say although I respect the honesty of this yank farmer it does reinforce the fact that the American animal welfare system is poorer than most the EU let alone the UK which has one of(if not the highest) animal welfare control in the world. So respectively, although you are teaching a lot about your kind of farming that certainly does not translate to the rest of the more higher standards around the world.

I have no idea if you will see this, but I hope you do. I have been watching your reels/channel for a while now and love to listen about how you take care of your cattle. I do have a question though, how have you found is the best way to feed the babies? I would assume they are bottle babies at first. The reason I ask is I just got 2 week old angus, Jersey calves and one is definitely more plushy when it comes to feeding time and it can be difficult to feed them alone. I do plan on getting more but I want to be prepared when it comes to having more than 2 babies. Any information is greatly appreciated. Keep making these great videos to help educate people they are amazing!!

Becuse im under the assumption that a different type of "cow" is raised for meat then cows for milk the term "cows" also includes "bulls" becuse as meat you really do not know what is what some butchers might know. But the vast public doesn't.

I come from Iowa farmers, ironically I became a vegetarian. but I have no problem with meat eaters or farmers. I do have issues with vegans. I'm a research scientist by trade, and I find it funny that by year 3 of being a vegan a human body will start eating it's own brian to get vitamin B12 and B6, but if they were to eat eggs and dairy they would not have that problem. I only ask of my meat eating ppl is don't kill them only for one part then throw out the rest. my dad's family raises pig and my mom's side does cattle beyond corn and soy beans on their farms. I'm 75/25 Hawkeye, cyclone with a dash of sun devil. we don't talk about the sun devil part as it's Pac 12. but anyways I'll defend your stance against the vegans they are just stupid. I'm questioning ppl a lot these last few years as I work in biohazard and I can guess your thoughts there. go get yummy Dutch letters for me! I miss those but I don't miss snow
