Ip Man | Final Fight Scene

I like how this final scene isn’t necessarily the greatest fight but extremely symbolic. Ip Man feels useless/defeated at the site of his town’s destruction and this fight was supposed to be another notch in the Japanese army’s belt as a rigged loss for Ip but instead he brutalizes the general and like the black belts again defies Japan. He’s fighting a whole county and defending martial arts principle here more than Miura himself.

The manner in which Miura non-chalantly rose to his feet from seiza with his ankles still in plantar flexion @1:39 is cold af and terrifying. That moment always stood out to me. Very effective shot demonstrating how weaponized his limbs are / consummately trained he is.

You are correct, Japanese that time believes that none should surrender, and must fight honourably to the death. Even in the past, Samurais have such beliefs, they would commit seppukku if they bring dishonour by surrendering or failing. The general never surrender which he served his duty honourably to the end.

My favorite thing about this scene is that usually in the final battle the hero is losing the fight until he unlocks or remembers something. But in this fight Ipman just destroys him

3:57 this might be one of my favorite fight sequences of all time. Better than any Rocky knock out finish or any fight movie ending fight. The seriousness to it everything that happened to him the absolute G ip man is the way the show him working the dummy and hitting this dummy the same way. The last kick with the last blow and how long it takes for the crowd to erupt.
