Fun fact USB Type-C is owned by Apple and is the only patent holder in all continents, the development was led by different tech companies including Intel.. The iPhone 5s should be originally USB Type-C upon launch but unfortunately the Type-C engineering team at intel made a mistake and delayed the type-C launch for 1 year. It caused other companies to back out leaving Apple and Intel being the frontline of the development. The old 30 pin charger by Apple was too big to fit on to the slim design of the 5s so they conducted a research and developed their own proprietary reversible connector called “Lightning” which was faster in terms of data transfer compared to older USB connections on androids at that time, but Apple received a backlash on their customers since billions where invested all-in-all by companies who make third party accessories for the old 30 pin apple connector, the switch to “Lightning was not well received”.. On 2015 the technology behind the Type-C was ready and apple released it on their new All type-C MacBook line-up and went on to license it to many companies we know like Samsung, LG etc. Apple took years to transition the iPad line-up to type-c because they want to avoid backlash again since many manufacturers and consumers have already invested in the “Lightning” connector. But now Apple is gearing up in transition to a wireless future for the iPhones since they have the technology such as the wireless charging on their Apple watch. Apple needs to scale it up to meet the power demands of the iPhone and eventually improving it by mitigating heat buildup and whatever. So yeah.
