Apple sure took its time updating the iPad mini 5 and when it finally did update to the new iPad mini 6 I and many other users were thrilled that the iPad mini was getting the modern redesign love that had graced other excellent iPads like the iPad Pro and iPad Air. However, Apple did something a little different when they redesigned the iPad mini, they took this from being a budget oriented iPad to being a premium small tablet with a higher price tag than even the bigger 10.9 inch iPad which shares a similiar design, and arguably has more features at a cheaper price point. So is the expensive iPad mini still worth it in 2023 and do we even need small tablets anymore?

What do you think - do we still need an iPad mini in 2023? Also if you do need or want an iPad mini consider buying it from a third party like amazon where it's usually $100 cheaper: amzn.to/40kDK6H (Affiliate link.)

Funny. I actually have one in my hand right now that I just bought about two months ago I love it when I’m traveling I take it to trade shows I take notes on it. It’s the perfect size. I’ll take photos of things I need to see in scribble notes right on the photo it fits in my pocket the battery lasts all day with the USB-C adapter, I can output movies to the hotel room TVs. For my youth case it’s absolutely perfect. I do wish I had spent the extra and got the cellular enabled one but if they ever come out with a new one, that’s the one I get. Great video as always.

I own on the iPad mini 6, and for me its the perfect iPad ever. I use it even more than my iPhone pro max for browsing , watching media content ,gaming , and reading especially when I am on my couch, or on my bed about to sleep. I also have no problem bringing it with me everywhere because it's very light and small (without being too small) for a tablet, but still very fast and powerful , and the battery is so great on this device. screen is very sharp too and colorful though i wish theres an oled version. I don't think I'm gonna upgrade to a newer iPad mini anytime soon unless Apple releases an iPad mini with an OLED display with 120 Hz promotion which i dont think is happening soon yet. i can say this is one of my best purchases, no regrets buying this ipad. long story short, still a great buy in 2023 i think!

I had an 11” iPad Pro for about 7 months and I got the iPad Mini cellular as a work device since I wanted to keep my phone for personal use and I noticed I started reaching for my mini more and more as I was home and at work. It’s so much more comfortable and convenient compared to the larger tablets I really hope it sticks around. I would love to see a mini pro model soon!

I love/adore my mini it goes everywhere with me. I have an iPhone 13 pro max, an M2 Macbook air, a 12.9 inch M1 iPad and a mac mini for my desktop. Yet I always find myself grabbing my mini. My friends laugh at me because I will lay on the sofa and watch all my shows and youtube content on the mini instead of my 65 inch TV. I know crazy but thats how comfy it is to hold and watch. I recently added a DBrand skin and a Moft adhesive tablet stand and it was a game changer. Adds barely any weight and still can fit in a sling bag without having to carry an separate stand. I am 65 years young lol yet I can view all content with no problems. I highly recommend it to anyone and a few of my friends have actually brought it and now are in awe of it too. Great video!!!

My original iPad is second generation so I waited a bit to upgrade. My original still works kzbin.infoUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA , but the battery is bad and won't stay charged so it always has to be plugged into a power source. The new 10th generation was a great bargain for Prime Day that I couldn't pass up. It was easy enough to set up: everything came down from iCloud with no issues.

I completely agree, I've had the LTE version since it came out and it is nearly the perfect device for my portable, heavy travel laden lifestyle. I bought a iPad mini 6 and find that I use it all the time. This by far is so much easier to carry around than any of the larger sized iPads. I love the speed of the A15 processor. I use this to run my drones and works perfect for that. Even in the sun the screen works great for that. Even though the 500 nits on the screen. I also have the iPad Pro 12.9" 5th generation and even though it doesn't have the speed and screen it does, it does a great job.

My 2012 iPad mini's battery finally died, and I was keen to replace it with the latest model, because I found it perfect for reading books, magazines, journals and newspapers; listening to music, audiobooks and podcasts, etc. But the lack of a 3.5mm headphone socket on the latest model was a dealbreaker. Bluetooth is not capable of audiophile-quality audio, and I find it tedious to have to have rechargable speakers, headphones or earbuds, which have a limited life compared to wired devices which provide superior sound quality. So I ended up buying a 9th gen iPad, which still has a 3.5 mm socket. I would have much preferred the mini form factor, but it was not to be.

I like Apple Care extended warranty 7. I like how I can easily get international service 8. I can easily hold it in portrait mode in one hand Q: What is the best tablet? I've been using an iPad Mini 2 for years and been annoyed on how slow it was and that it's basically OS locked and can't even install some apps because of the OS restriction. I ended up getting the Mini 6 and it has been a wonderful device for reading and media consumption which is my main use case for it. I initially wanted an Android tablet, but there's simply no device that can compete with Mini series because most OEMs have abandoned this market. And even if there are small form factor Android tablets, they so underpowered add also that software support is not guaranteed in the coming years. The Mini simply has this small tablet market locked and no competition. I also don't want the bigger iPads since I find them too big and heavy especially when reading. Also, I don't like how modern tablets are being designed and marketed to be laptop replacements which imo, I'll just get a laptop for productivity. The Mini is simply fantastic for what it does and imo sets it apart from others because of it's small size and power in a compact form.

Gives you a touch screen when you need it, super portable, great for travel when you need a screen but don’t want to put out a full on laptop. The mini is perfect and i cant wait to get my hands on it. I have to wait until late july to get mine since it's being shipped to my house but I'm currently in another country. I plan on keeping the mini for as long as it serves a purpose for me, then eventually upgrading. I haven't used my ipad pro in over a year because I lent it to my sister and just never got it back, however I start college in August and I know I will probably want it back for that. Otherwise, I stopped needing a full size ipad for daily use. The mini will be perfect for me since the main thing I like doing is watching shows and youtube and my phone just isn't big enough but my laptop is too big for most situations. Otherwise it'll be a great companion for my switch since I like doing a bit of joycon customization and looking for all that stuff on my phone while im out is not fun

I love Android tablets but there just isn't enough premium small Android tablets in the U.S. market so I ended up with the Mini 6, it's so snappy for light web browsing,reddit,youtube,comics/manga/kindle,etc. The way the Apple pencil 2nd gen attaches to the side is super convenient. There's a bunch of 3rd party bluetooth keyboard cases on Amazon, but just having a separate compact keyboard like the Logitech K380 or Apple Magic Keyboard for Mac work better in my usage.

I picked up the iPad mini for $299 after $100 credit. I have the pro but it’s too big to carry around. I use the pro while it’s on a stable surface and I’m not moving. I use the mini when I want to take it everywhere like while doing dishes or walking between rooms. I’m shocked the mini is so much easier and fun to use. It’s also the perfect size to take notes on the go without stressing your arms

I plan on buying one. I have a desktop PC running Linux on which I do all of my work. I have a decade-old outdated iPad way overdue for replacement. I have a camera sling-bag where a larger ipad won't fit in the bag and at my age, the text on any smartphone is simply to small for myself to do anything meaningful on. Thus it is going to be the iPad mini with 256Gb, wifi + cellular connection with it's fast USB port for backing up my photos from SD card plus a light photo-editing app for previews. Photo backup, streetmap support, light web browsing, KZbin, listening to podcasts, reading ebooks, a bird identification guide, a mapping app called Tracks4Africa and possibly an Uber-like transport app is going to be the sum of my iPad needs. I expect the current mini to fulfil most of those functions for many years to come.

I bring my iPad mini everywhere. It’s a suitable laptop replacement in a pinch. I recently registered for classes at college on it because I forgot my MacBook and didn’t realize.

Impulsively bought an iPad mini 6 a week ago on a vacation trip to Singapore, and I must say despite having an iPhone 14 pro max and a 2018 iPad Pro 11 inch, that this device is getting the most handheld time, with it being the perfect work/play device. Much easier to work on than an iPhone, but much more mobile than an iPad Pro. Already having the Pencil is just the icing on the cake for this device, as well. I think the Mini’s dimensions and relatively modest price point kind of lessens the expectations of it, too. Of course nobody would look to replace their laptop with an 8 inch tablet. IMO that’s why I get the vibe people who bought the Mini are just enjoying having a tablet as an accompaniment to their laptops/big tablets AND phones, and not worrying about shoehorning their 11 or 13 inch 900-ish dollars tablets to replace every single use case of their existing MacBooks, which are still annoyingly way more robust and reliable for some work arrangements.

I loved my Mini 4, but it just got too slow for most things despite following all the recommendations to speed it up. I recently traded it in for the 6 and I love it! I carry it all the time and use it for so many things.

The iPad Mini 6 is the device I hoped for when the iPad was first announced many lifetimes back. 😜 Form factor and capability with the Pencil make it my portable brain. My infinite sketch pad. My searchable notebook. Pairing the right apps with it is the key.

Hey Greg. Fellow Greg here. I bought one of the mini 6’s today before seeing this. Had the same question in my mind as to the point of this device. I figure it will fit somewhere between when i want to use a device bigger than my phone, and when i don’t want to drop my iPad Air on my face. Remains to be seen how much I’ll use it. Definitely a lot lighter and more portable and grippy though, so i like that.

I love the iPad mini. You are spot on. it is the original idea for the iPad. it simply a consumption device that has a bigger screen. I can't buy it because 64Gb sucks, and 256Gb is too expensive. no sale until it goes to 128GB min.

As a person who uses iPad mini 6, iPhone 14 Pro Max and MacBook Air M1, I think it is good. Simply, iPhone is my daily driver, I use it for everything when Im outside. I come home and if I wanna watch videos, my M1 MacBook is my go to device. But when I game, my iPad mini never lets me down. To be frank, my M1 Mac can be slow at times..never have I seen my iPad mini skip a beat. Unfortunately, even my iPhone 14 glitches at times..I don't mind but I wonder why. Btw, I used to have iPad Pro 2020 before this..but I found that to be too big as a MOBA player. I prefer to hold my device when I play than standing it on a table.

I have an an ipad mini 5. I remember debating about buying it because would it just not be that useful. It is my most used device. I think of it as my consumer device. All the everyday stuff: swamping out the email box, reading, watch KZbin, listening to music, texting, zooming. The big phones are too big for my hand, so I have a smaller phone and use this instead. Perfect for note taking with a paperlike screen protector. Doesn’t fit in my pocket, but fits nicely in a small purse. Goes everywhere. If it dies, I will replace it in a heartbeat.

Forgot to say that being able to hold a mini with one hand *comfortably* while using kindle app or watching a short video is a huge plus. Larger iPads are heavy and have never been comfortable to hold, so they become more stationary - at that point my macbook is what I want to be on.

I got an 11 inch iPad Pro a little less than a year ago. I love it but found it harder and harder to want to take it anywhere. It’s great at home but instead of going for a Magic Keyboard for it I ended up getting a mini. I had a mini 4 but it was just too slow and the 6 is just amazing. I have an Apple Pencil 2 for the Pro and the ability to use it with either device is a big plus. It fits in perfectly between my iPhone 13 (not max) and the 11 inch Pro.

I bought my iPadMini 5th generation with cell phone capacity as a replacement for the Kindle back in 2020….mainly to use as a reader for books because it can open all types of files that the Nook & Kindle cannot….it’s a gem! Love it!….still have a MAC desktop from 2009

they were made to test the market on size & yes larger screen devices are clearly more popular & trendy BUT the ipad mini size is a direct competitor for READER TABLETS like the Amazon kindles etc. so imo mac would be wise to keep putting out an updated version every 3 yrs my ipad mini is my fave device

I’ve got a Mini 6 that I use everyday for causal stuff like reading, videos, etc … just like you mentioned in your video. I also have an iPad Pro 11 w/ the Magic Keyboard for work/laptop replacement, an iPhone 13 Pro Max for “on the go” communication and some important apps, a Mac Mini M2 as a desktop, and a MacBook Air M1 (which I rarely use). My point is that it seems to me that having the product lineup Apple has encourages users to buy the devices that work best for their needs, and those needs change from person to person. Others love the MacBook Air and use it all the time, but don’t want an iPad Pro. I think you get the point. Having said all that, I’d love to see an update of the iPad Mini this year with an M1 (or much faster A-whatever) chip. I’d buy it as soon as it’s available and give the iPad Mini 6 to my wife!

Im new to iPad would, I found this device to be perfect for my couch media consumption and education. It’s smaller than a normal iPad but that’s the point. This is the bigger phone you always wanted and not as heavy as any other normal tablet. It doesn’t do all better, but comes in very handy when you want something practical with bigger screen than a phone, yet still light enough. I would say this is the practical iPad.

My IPad Mini 5 is still great! So even my 10 year old IPad mini 2 is still incredibly usable. The iPad Minis just seem to keep on keeping on! Your observations are right on: the mini is a better tablet than the bigger iPads, when being used to do what most people use a tablet for.
