I just got started in design and art in general and bought an IPad to use ProCreate. I had zero experience with it and your videos are amazing. Just finished the first one, the pumpkin and can't wait to complete them all.

Hopefully you still read comments on your older videos and can provide me with advice. I just completed this tutorial but I wanted to take it a step further and add a silhouette of a guy skating, print it, frame it and give it to my father for his 84th b-day bc you can't really buy an 84 yr old man anything, so I thought this would be a good alternative. I need to make the water look more like ice but I don't know what would be the best way to go about doing it. I think what I need to do is add dark blue/black to the outer edges of the water and gradually fade it into the reflection of the sun as well as tone down the reflection bc it wouldn't be as vibrant on ice but it would still exist to some degree. I think I also need to add some harsh lines on the surface to represent the marks left behind when I've has been skated on, but Idk how to fo about it or if that's what it needs. If you could give me some very general instruction so I can use it as a starting point to experiment I would appreciate it. If you don't know how to draw ice in procreate I understand bc it doesn't seem like something anyone knows how to do bc I have yet to find a single image out there where someone has tried to draw a frozen body of water, only things like ice cubes or icicles so although I believe its possible. i know it's not easy bc none of the people who create tutorials has ever tried it, Ive spent hours searching and if it existed I would have found it eventually but I keep striking out. Thanks.

Awesome tutorial as always and I look forward to your next one. If you don't mind me asking, where do you get your inspiration from? Are you searching for a specific keyword? I've tried like "scenic mountains"..etc. but I haven't been able to find any photos for reference that are as pretty as the scenes are you painting so I was just curious as how you find your reference images? I am a photographer as well, but I haven't been able to get out lately to get good photos.
@JamesJulier-Artist
@JamesJulier-Artist Жыл бұрын
It varies from one image to the next, I certainly do research images for reference, but more often I take elements from a picture and combine them with others. I often ignore unnecessary details and clutter to simplify and change the composition etc.

Hi James! Whenever I do your tutorials, my colors look so off from yours. I use the same canvas and color profile. I have the latest iPad Air. I’m using procreate. My colors are also off from other tutorials but it’s super noticeable with yours. I have brightness turned all the way up. Does anyone know what I can do? I spend half the video trying to find the right color match.
@JamesJulier-Artist
@JamesJulier-Artist Жыл бұрын
It’s my camera that throws it off a little, I’ve tried to adjust in editing previously but it throws it off more. The image I show at the start and end will match the colours you have. If you want it more vibrant simply turn up the saturation a notch or two after you have finished

Question why do you have to choose a new layer after each new color / thing you’re drawing ?
@JamesJulier-Artist
@JamesJulier-Artist Жыл бұрын
Keeps things separate so if there is a need to go back and adjust something it’s possible. Even if I don’t do so within the tutorial, the people following will find it easier to fix any problems that crop up this way

Wow, I just ran across your videos :) Just picked up a 2020 ipad pro 12.9 in for $575 off ebay -- it's in like new condition. Got the Apple 2nd ed pencil as well :) Look forward to trying to paint the landscape in this video -- so beautiful! Q: do you use a screen protector? I've considered the paperlike but it scratches easy and wears down teh pencil fast I read. I've considered the glass but then there is the jagged/wavy line issue. Bleh.
