What helped me, was to ask myself what the worst thing that could happen is. Then ask yourself how bad that actually would be, and what it would mean for life on earth in the future (distant or near). Those questions are always easier to think about, if you don’t think you’re going to experience the worst effects yourself 😉.

Take action. Consume far less. Consider the consequences of every action. Make choices accordingly. Spread the message. Be part of the solution. Find people who agree. Being an activist can be empowering and positive, and is within the grasp of every individual reading this. Begin right now, and feel good about it.

I find the financial limits especially frustrating. Yes, many solutions cost a lot of money and will require a lot of effort to ensure citizens don’t end up homeless when their industry shuts down…but that’s why we should be pushing for more action now! That way we have more time to do the transition properly.

I'm struggling with serious climate anxiety. myself and my wife have been together for 17 years and are finally after years of saving in a position to afford IVF to start our family, only thing is I'm terrified of what we could be bringing them in to and if its even right to bring more children into the world the way it is and the future that could be without action. my family think I'm crazy to be thinking this way and my Wife says its my decision as i'll be carrying the baby. as a side note I live in Ireland and adoption here is incredibly hard to do and inter country adoption is even harder and beyond our finances. as for fostering I'm not sure we could go through raising and potentially having to hand back a child. has anyone else considered or decided not to have children based on climate change?

It seems like a common problem. You might find the perspective in an article titled "Please Don't Give Up On Having Kids Because Of Climate Change" useful (it seems like if I post the link, the reply gets lost in content moderation...).

Firstly, thank you so much for sharing, Jennifer. It's such a deeply valid concern, and don't let anyone tell you you're wrong to be questioning it. It's hugely personal, and in my view there's no right answer. I just know that I want to create a world where we no longer have to ask ourselves such questions.

Of course the extremes of poverty and wealth is the biggest cause of human suffering as much or if not more then climate change. When the top 10% have 90% of all the wealth that's when people problems arise real problems every second of every day. We fight for the crumbs and try to find happiness with the crumbs. The 1st world governments and oligarchs should be held accountable for the misery they have caused. People delude themselves and distract themselves with the stupidity of celebrity and don't get properly educated.

Weather warfare, weather & climate engineering causes human suffering. Nothing CONvinces people of climate change (despite it's not due to co2) better than losing loved ones and their homes. Droughts floods, extreme weather bomb cyclones, feeding hurricanes moisture & steering them all possible via weather & climate engineering. It's been seven decades of of boiling the frogs.

Question for you: I had no idea the second part had come out, despite eagerly anticipating it. I think this is because all news outlets have been focusing on Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Of course that is extremely important, and deserves the attention of the media, but I wonder: Is there a risk of this overshadowing the IPCC report and, if so, what could the impact of this be? And to conclude, I am a MASSIVE fan! I credit you as being one of the main voices which helped me recontextualise climate change in my head and not succumbing to a "well, all is lost" mentality. Thank you for that

Excellent question, and I feel pretty certain this part of the report has received less attention than wg1, which came out last year. Of course our attention is greatly on this war right now, but the world has shown it can do two things at once. Concern and conversation about climate change grew, even while we've been grappling with covid. We can - and we have to - deal with all our crises together. They're interlinked, after all! And thanks so much. Very glad you find the videos valuable.

I’m so thankful about these reports, very much needed, thanks for sharing. I was suffering a lot of anxiety about this when unemployed (and I just finished studying biology) during the pandemic and today work and money is just distracting me from this, THIS is so very important for me and I just needed it. We need to destroy the systems that are killing us, I see now that they can’t “change” or “become sustainable”. I know it sounds extreme to destroy the systems and the worlds economy but we are in an extreme situation, it already is a matter of life or death for a lot of people, including me and my loved ones.

Do these reports only come out every 8 years? Do we need more reports more often? What is going to light a fire to get governments and people to act? Still frustrated the major news channels focus daily on the economy and infrequently on climate change stories.
@ClimateAdam2 жыл бұрын
Every 7 years in theory, but I think some things got delayed this time round. My personal feeling is that perhaps that used to be enough, but as things accelerate (in research, policy, and in the changes to our climate to itself) so should the report cycle. At the same time, its such a burden on researchers, it's hard to see how that'd be possible... By the way while the main report is ~ every 7 years, the ipcc did release 3 special reports in that time period too, which were fundamentally important in reshaping climate policy and activism. In fact the 1.5 degree report completely shifted the discussion about how much warming we can tolerate and how much time we have.

@@Meekseek I agree, messing with things we do not fully understand can only lead to disaster at an epic scale. My logic is simple, we don't know what we don't know therefore logically we need to question everything. Ice cores show its been much colder and much warmer in the earths past and yet we are still here, which goes to show people can survive by learning to adapt to climate change, we as a species need to focus more on environmental pollution and habitat destruction as they are more of an immediate concern.
