I just bought a 2001 V70 T5 with a lot of issues. As these issues started revealing themselves and I was putting more and more money into it, I thought about selling it and cutting my losses. But two things keep me hanging on: one, I've already driven it enough to get hooked on the feel of the car ( the comfort and handling feels like a BMW, as does the acceleration while carrying four people and two dogs ), and two, there's an incredible support system among Volvo owners, IPD being at the top. I'm a few replacement parts and some shop hours away from getting my Volvo back into the sweet spot. I'm going to keep it and enjoy it. I couldn't do that without folks like you.

😭😭😭😭😭 I'm in the same bucket but you are right! I've climbed dunes of silt, driven through the Rio grande River, cruised icy roads with confidence, climbed snowy hills. Heck I've pulled out an f250 that was stuck in sand. I wish I knew about these videos 5 years ago though. My xc70 is still running though, I just want more booooost.

Thanks guys! The video should start with "almost every common p2 problem can be fixed in your driveway by the average person" 146k on my 2009 s60. Dealt with alot of these, but this helps put a face on a couple things that have been grating at me. Bought my s60 new with some mechanical inclination but assuming, like most upper end cars, it would difficult to work on, i let the dealership do most repairs. That changed when i needed plugs and coils and the dealer charged half a months salary. Replaced them easily w/youtube at a quarter the cost. Since i have replaced (in my driveway): Brakes, sway bar links, engine mounts, shocks struts and all components, mass air flow sensor,, thermostat & housing, inner + outer tie rods, intercooler & rad hoses, fuel filter, belt (take to dealer for timing belt, they tag the motor with date & mileage on volvo metal tag ) overflow tank and probably a couple other things. Added up it equals $thousands saved from shops. I take my car to the dealer and pay $100 (1/2 time they dont charge) to do an inspection, they note everything that needs repaired. I go home and watch videos of repairs and all that seem easy, i order the parts, install myself and save 70%-%90 overall. Worth mentioning that every bolt (barring sway bar end links) came off like a dream. Didnt have any repairs turn into projects due to broken bolts or misc. crap. I would note that the subframe bushing inserts require removing subframe bolts ABSOLUTELY REPLACE THESE STRETCH BOLTS, THEY ATTACH THE SUBFRAME (carries engine, tranny, wheels/suspensio) TO THE FRAME (passenger compartment)

I love these videos and do help a lot. But I wish you guys would hold the part up and maybe a quick little picture of where it goes would help a lot. I have a V70 and all these are things I plan to check it’s just nice to know part number how the part looks and where it goes even if you know where it goes it’s still nice just getting a bit more in depth with the parts would also be awesome. The pros and cons of some parts explanation of causes from a failure part and so on. Other then that I love these type of videos keep it up!

thanks for your explanation I have a clou now what the issiue with my vx70 2004 is!! since almost 1 year I go from shop to shop, even official volvo dealers, and none could tell me where the problem lies. they just kept changing and renewing stuff and none helped. they even wanted to replace the transmission - thanks goodness I researched this first I found out it had nothing to do with the transmission. Would have been quiet a costy deal!! and i have always such weird error codes which none makes sense. i have no clue about motors and stuff - lol . but i have a working brain and senses. I felt from the beginning it has something to do with air or gases when i opened the hood i could smell them.....but everywhere I went they just kept ignoring it. so well, no other choice apart througing the car away - i went searching and stumbled across your channel - great!!!! after watching your video and couple more for more details, I figured out it has to do with the pcv system. I am quiet sure of it for all the stuff they changed and "fixed" have all to do with this system. I am really thankful - even though a couple years past since this video was posted - hey those cars do still exist ;-) I can tell my mechanic what to look for now - thanks to your effort. bless you!

You should add sway bar end links, and window regulator clips. My old 855 had those same issues though. Current car is an 04' V70R. Need to update quite a few of these items again, since hitting 220k miles.

Rocking the ORIGINAL PCV system on my 2004 XC90 T6 and still have enough negative pressure to suck a glove into the filler cap! Synthetic oil is a MUST for PCV longevity.

Don’t forget fuel pump or fuel sender leaking after filling up the tank. The fuel leak and smell goes away after using about 3 gallons of gas. Leak could be from hairline cracks on the plastic top or from worn out O-rings.

Thermostat assemblies are most often replaced because they leak in our experience. Fault codes for the ECT are very rare on the 5cyl cars but slightly more common on the T6 cars. The main reason the engine cooling fans stay on for a lot of P2 cars(seemingly '05+ that have condenser problems) is because the a/c system is low on refrigerant and triggers an a/c pressure sensor fault which turns the fan on full blast.

I'm a little over a hundred thousand miles, going through a lot of these repairs. Wondering if I had the MAF sensor or PCV issue.. My car is jerky, hesitant when starting cold and in first gear.. And maybe 2nd. Throttle position sensor..

Great video thanks. I have a 2009/10 xc70. 205bhp. Diesel. Auto. I’ve had it since summer this year. I’ve managed to fixed most of the issues I wanted to. I only have one issue that is bugging me now. Slow speed steering is heavy most of the time. Manoeuvring, parking, etc. I’ve replaced the steering fluid and reservoir. When the revs are up slightly it’s fine but if you’re off the throttle it can be very heavy. It seems like a common issue but no one seems to know how to fix it. I have only found 1 video that addresses the issue by fitting an XC90 pump which has a slightly smaller size pulley and a slightly smaller drive belt. It seems that it delivers approximately 9% more power to the rack. Any advice or information would be great. Many thanks. William
