I think you could get your fill of this, by traveling one country at a time, so you don't have to deal with all that transferring & registering the bike between borders! Start with a 2-week motorbike tour of one country. You can get a better price if you rent a motorcycle for two weeks & if it breaks down, you simply switch it out for another rental. This idea of going across multiple borders is romantic but unrealistic.

Nice video, thanks! It all depends on what you are leaving. If you have zero costs in your home country (like a house loan or something) it is not that difficult (financially) to make a bike trip. My wife and I drove 31000km through Europe and Central-Asia at a cost of 38 euro's a day, all included for both of us and the bike. (from food, to toothpaste, fuel, tires and nights...) It could have been even cheaper if we would have cared more.

I live in Australia and it's true, it is expensive. That is because we are paid reasonably well. That is why it is more expensive to live here. But that can make it expensive for people coming from other countries who don't earn as much as we do. The good part is that it is one very large country. Riding across it is like riding from Ireland to Georgia. Or if you ride around its edges it is like riding from Ireland (through Russia) to Japan! I've done that a couple of times and while it can be expensive, you can save money if you don't splash out on things you don't need. For one thing, there are no fees riding between countries like there are in Europe. You don't need to exchange your money, which can also be a rip-off. You can camp almost anywhere and it won't cost you anything. Some Pubs even allow you to camp out the back and you can use their showers and toilets at no cost, as long as you buy a beer or have dinner there. Petrol at the moment for 91 Octane is about $1.10 AUD per litre so If you want to ride around Australia (about 12,000 klm) and get say 25 klm per litre, it will cost you about $530 AUD. But it is a long ride and can take a long time. I think food is the most expensive item so it's best to go to the cheaper stores like Aldi and cook it at Caravan Parks. You can find work here picking fruit etc if you are short of money too.

Another good one mate. I was left thinking 'so what did it add up to??" I went back and listened again and got this 6 month trip across Europe and Asia, distance of about 20,000 kms. All in Euro Per day costs add to 5100 but this low end could be higher say 5000 to 7500 Bike maintenance 500 to 1000 (choose a reliable bike!!) Visas - you said about 60 average so lets say 10 countries, say 500 to 1000 total Vaccinations say 500 Insurance..I would want a med-evac but other might not say 25 a week say 600 to 1000 for 6 months Flight (you) and freight (bike) home, say 1500 to 2500, depends where you end up Adds to 8,700 to 13,500. Roughly half fixed and half per day but you could maybe use 50c a kilometer to start with? Or 50E a day? Sounds more than $19 a day but as you say, quick and dirty, you need to start somewhere.

In the USA, for cheap or cheaper info for camping spots, look at downloading an app called ParkAdvisor (Android). When I went on a 2 month motorcycle tour of Australia, you could camp nearly anywhere outside of main cities... but be prepared for central Australia being an absolute massive amount of time spent alone. I bought a flat laying hammock from a gentleman in Australia. Probably my smartest investment... simple, lightweight, and roughly 300 dollars. Much better than dealing with customs agents when bringing my own tent into their country.

A good way to look at a Carnet is its a Passport for your motorbike or any piece of expensive gear you travel with . In the music touring world we must hold carnets to prove ownership and the bond is in place to stop you from selling the item /Motorbike overseas for cash and not paying tax or having an importation licence, So you pay a band catalogue serial numbers and lodge the carnet with your countrys asociation then head out and travel and every border thats crossed it might be looked and numbers checked, when you arrived home your frieght forwarder will check all items listed are back as noted then ypur bond is released back to you,

I'm not always certain the bottled water bought is good. I think the Grayl has been our favourite; the Steripen needs batteries and imo has been a bit fickle. My bike was there on a carnet. It was interesting how in NSW a lady popped out of the office with a clipboard while she barely looked over the bike as I flipped the switches and quickly went down her checklist, done. The second time in WA I had to find a certified dealership to do a more serious checkup, at a cost too. Rego had already expired in SA so I was worried about some crazy regulation that I could only legally show up with it on a trailer, you just never know in Oz as you probably well know but all was good. Didn't do it in SA because I think (not 100% sure) I would have had to change to Aussie plates. New Zealand though was dead serious about their checkup and had me a bit worried since the bike was at its worst possible state. Got denied the first time because of a tiny fracture in the rear rubber brake line which had been there since I bought the bike in 2010/11. Didn't expose the inner line but still. Before the second try I slid a short section of extra protective hose that was on there already a bit further back over the crack. Passed the test after that, but Nz did not play around for sure.

I recommend bringing a cheap water filter or a expensive water pump about $100 is what you should be looking after that it makes filling up a water bladder like a stick in your backpack really easy of course also bring a metal canteen or something like that where if you need to heat your whole water bottle up to where it boils for a minimal of three minutes but just because your bottle is made of metal does not make it safe it could explode if it has a vacuum seal also I bring extra oil and gas with me I don’t get a lot of extra gas & oil but an 2 extra liters for both of those will help me get to a proper gas station if I have too much fun on the dirt road and I don’t notice my fuel gauge is hitting the red or if I drop make bike and I leak oil Also bring things to plug tires and other things on your bike and a little bit of duct tape goes along way I always bring medical supplies including 4 tourniquets Incase I have a very bad accident or snakebite and get shot that last one is very unlikely but it can’t happen I alway bring a both a Solar panel in hand crank charger that can be plugged into a wall if needed , paper maps and compasses are a most along with Digital maps that can be more accurate. Most of the places I’ve ridden are in the United States Mexico and Vietnam so I add or take from my list of needs depending on the country Việt Nam only has 3 major roads going north and south so I can cut down on my maps just my phone and 1 paper map with compass is enough I did also download I Vietnamese map app and my wife Is Vietnamese so I have a person who can read the road signs more naturally then I do I do not bring a water filter there the water might not be safe to drink after it’s been filtered and boiled do to agent orange if your north of Hanoi don’t worry about that but if your between Hanoi and Sài Gòn also know as Hồ Chí Minh city it is something to think about just stick to imported water bottles and you will be fine And dual sport bikes and scramblers are your better friend in Vietnam even in the city’s just because the roads are that crappy even if you stay on the road you want to go over pot holes not into them if you have a triumph scrambler 1200 XC or XE that’s the bike to have especially the EX model

I would say a shitload of cash. Fuel costs are about $.10 a mile if the fuel is about $2 a gallon for my bike. For example, every 1,000 miles planned to ride carries a fuel bill of about $100. Where do you plan to stay? I prefer state parks at about $16 a night. Sometimes you come up short of your campground and get caught staying at someplace more expensive. I really try to stay at hotels that are $50 a night or less. How often do you plan to eat? On a long ride I'm good with a once a day meal with stops in between for taking in fluids. $25-30 for food and drinks. Riding the plan is 200 before lunch, and 300 after so that means. $50 a day for fuel at about $2 a gallon. What does that mean for minimum expected daily costs? State park kind of day. About $100, If it's a hotel kind of day, about $150 That doesn't cover maintenance, or repairs, or anything you might buy along the way. The last time I went on a long ride I had about $5K for a 60 day planned ride. I came home with no folding money, and only a little bit of silver on the last day.

very informative , thanks a lot. Did you have to apply for Visas in advance? Can you get visas on the boarder ?
@iPedroMota4 жыл бұрын
I did for Russia which required a letter of invitation and an embassy visit. Iran I did in Turkey, Turkmenistan in Iran which before you can apply requires a visa for both the countries you're coming from and leaving to after. Some may require a quick online registration before you arrive at the border. Many countries have visa on arrival at the border. All of this depends on your passport though and nowadays you can easily check that online.

Hi Pedro. I've been watching your Videos and can see you had a fantastically memorable trip. Planning a trip round Europe from the UK. My bike will do light off road. I want to stick to the little roads - the equivalent of 'b' roads in the UK, or 'd' roads in France as much as possible. I've had a look at Bing Maps and can see it's quite easy to filter out duel carriageways and toll roads. However, ideally I want to stick to country roads ( I'm not really interested in going anywhere near the cities, or even big towns ) Do you know of a way to select minor road routes on Bing Maps, or know of an App that will do that?
@iPedroMota5 жыл бұрын
That's the way to do it mate, happy planning. In bing or google no, usually pick a route that I'd think would be interesting in the general direction I'm going. You win some, lose some. Years ago played with an app for motorcycle routes but it wasn't for me. Maybe this article could be a jump off point for further searching www.motomappers.com/blog/best-motorcycle-apps-gps-navigation-ride-tracking/

@@iPedroMota Thanks, Pedro. I'll have a look at that link. I'm not up to speed with your travels, other than that I think you're in South America at the moment. I'm a long way behind so got a lot of catching up to do while I'm planning my own trip.

drinking from a good flowing small river is not a problem. because the water is flowing, the water will be pure and always getting filtered through the rock and sand along its way

go ahead with other deeper videos! about accomodation, i usually camp in the nature (free!) and have showers in rivers or gas stations what do you think about couchsurfing and other communities like that? did you ever try? keep it up
@iPedroMota6 жыл бұрын
I tried couchsurfing in the beginning and had an excellent few days with a host in Belgrade. But it was too much hassle and too slow to keep up and I never really knew where I was going to be. It can work I imagine if you plan out your destinations every few days.

I got issues after my first ride to Istanbul and back years ago and replaced it with an aftermarket one. They are pretty affordable nowadays. Get one as spare for long rides, glad that I did. Blew one in West Australia when the battery fried after the broken regulator boiled it. Lovely chain of events that was.

hey bro, I'm constantly coming back to this video. huge help man. was thinking while you're home in the netherlands maybe it would be a good time to go into some details. I'm scouring horizonsunlimted for as much as I possibly can but as I'm sure we both know it can be difficult. some things I find myself looking for are things like -where is best to get a carnet -what options are there for insuring the motorbike -what were some unexpected costs you ran into on your route through eu-asia landmass (as your route is pretty common and looks similar to mine) -recomendations for intercontinental freight and/or which mistakes to avoid -which vaccines you required -on your route which countries did you find cheap and expensive I'm gonna come back here and add other stuff I'm thinking of myself and I hope that helps. I mean shit it would be super difficult or impossible to create a frame from everyone to work from but if you do step by step continent by continent videos of what you experienced, I'm sure you'd get some good hits! thanks again for the sick videos bro

Great video Pedro, very informative. Have done a trip through the America’s? If so how was it? Could you possibly do a video on it. I’ve been thinking of riding from the U.S. down to South America
