There are 3 paired parts on the 1. The screen the battery and the Face ID assembly. If you have a donor phone and all you do is drop a logic board in you’ll end up with a screen message a battery message (and no battery health data) and Face ID will not be functional

You’ll have to elaborate on what you mean by crashed. Assuming the board in it crashed iphone is fine and the parts in that iCloud locked phone are fine, go for it. I do motherboard swaps all the time

This is a great example of a perfect use of a parts phone. Drop the logic board of the unlocked device into the carrier locked/iCloud locked device and you’re good to go

Face ID is paired to the device. In order to retain it you need their front camera assembly (all models) and the ear speaker flex (12 series and older). As long as you have that component and it’s mot damaged Face ID should work

Generally the board isn’t bad, it’s just a component or a short of an open line causing whatever issue. That being said your iCloud is on that board. If you put another board in your iCloud won’t be on that board. Obviously make sure that the board you are installing doesn’t have a lock iCloud or otherwise

So my phone is broken and the repair shop says that the motherboard is very damaged and its hard to fix it. Before we discovered the problem in the board, we put on a new screen and the phone worked but it just keeps restarting every 3 mins. My question is can i somehow transfer my data to a pc or smth? And btw the phone is stuck on “iphone unavailable try again in 5 mins” but it keeps turning off before the 5 mins end

3 min restart isn’t automatically a board issue. i’d start by narrowing down the missing sensor and replacing it before assuming it’s a board issue. even then, there’s still a decent chance it’s fixable. are you in the US? if so i’d be happy to help

There are holes in the board that you secure down with a stand off screw. They are literally in different places from one to the other. The sim tray is in a different spot. The camera flex would come up too short. As would the power/volume flex and the charging port flex

For a board only transfer this takes me about 30-40 min. Presumably the motherboard you are replacing it with doesn’t have any data so yes you will need to transfer your data afterwards.

Face ID should work as long as it’s the original that was paired to the device, the person that disassembled the device didn’t damage it, same goes for you installing it.

The bare necessity for your repair is a logic board that’s not iCloud activation locked. Ideally a board with comes with the front camera and ear speaker so you can retain Face ID functionality. Even more ideal is: front camera + ear speaker + rear camera + battery so you can avoid apples stupid ‘unknown part’ messages.

To retain Face ID in a 12 you need not only the front camera but the ear speaker flex as well. On top of that if you don’t have the original screen, rear camera or battery, you will have an ‘Unknown’ part message for each component l. Those features will still work, you’ll just have an annoying message in settings

You lose True Tone with a new screen eve if it’s oem Apple (unless you buy the $100 programmer). You’ll also lose battery health in settings unless you spot weld the daughter board to the new battery. I’ve done many repairs exactly like this and the vast majority of customers aren’t bothered by it if there is a decent amount of savings to justify the loss of those two functionalities.

It’s definitely not locked to Spanish. You can change the language. iCloud is a server based lock and specific to each motherboard. As long as you have a known good board without an iCloud activation lock, you’re good to go. But there are far too many downsides which is why I suggest not doing so in the video

Apple shows those messages if any part other than the one that was originally paired from the factory is installed. So your parts may very well be genuine but thanks to apples anti repair practices you are stuck with those messages

The whole point of the video is to point out all of the downsides in buying (it’s not like there’s a ton of legitimate places that sell logic boards) and all of the annoying messages and/or not having Face ID post repair. And I don’t make nearly as much off mail in repairs or buying parts phones as you think. Not sure what to make of that last sentence. I’m in business to make money obviously, but i frequently shoot myself in the foot economically speaking when I think not repairing a device is the best option. Water damage is a perfect example of this. I’ve done this for years, you are more than welcome to the secret shop me 1 year 2 years 5 years from now my stand on it won’t change, repairing water damage phones is generally a terrible idea. Can I make money by charging a diagnostic fee? Absolutely. But I think it’s morally egregious when other repair shops give wildly inaccurate expectations just to charge someone $50-100 bench fee that they know won’t result in a successful long lasting repair. I shoot myself in the foot and tell people that all the time. Unless you want data, water damage isn’t worth it. Another example: I made a whole video about what a shit job most back glass repairs are. With the whole goal to educate people. At least then you’ll be educated enough to make the right decision. You’ll find that’s not exactly common in this industry
