Same. I migrated to android after the iPhone 5s and have never looked back since. Until now. I did pick up the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra in the end and honestly the big thing on my list that's still missing from iPhone is fast charging (once you get used to it, you can't go back), but I do think that the iPhone 13 pro max will end up being the phone of the year. Regardless of the new Pixel coming out.
@happyguy2k3 жыл бұрын
The battery alone is why it will be and I'm an android guy
@HeyItsHades3 жыл бұрын
The biggest reason why Apple won't do fast charging is because it greatly effects long term battery health compared to regular/slow speeds. And alot of iPhone users easily use their iPhone for 3-5 years and expect it preform just as well. And trying to explain to the general public that expects the iPhone to last a minimum of 5 years that if they use this feature their phone won't last as long without a battery replacement will just make Apple look bad as most people won't grasp the concept and see it as a money grab. Personally, as a iPhone user & many iPhone users I know don't care about fast charging as we charge our phones at night. I love the MagSafe charger and would take that on my phone over any type of fast charging any day. It is still kinda crazy though that we are seeing Android phones with 60+ watts charging and the iPhone (even the most expensive model : pro max) is limited to around 20 watts.
@SeemsLikeSomething3 жыл бұрын
When you say fast charging, do you mean wirelessly? Because from what I’ve heard about the 13 pro, it can do a wired fast charge of 50% in just 30 mins. It does throttle the final 50% incrementally as it approaches 100% to thwart any impact on battery health. I know for sure that on any Qi charger, it’s capped at 7.5w unfortunately, but on a MagSafe with a 30w brick, you’ll get somewhere in the mid 20’s I believe.

@sabr3T3 жыл бұрын
I used to be a huge advocate for fast charging, if a phone had it, I was pleased, but now, Personally, I don't see much of a point of fast charging when your battery can last the whole day. Regular IPhone 13 got around 9-9:30 hours of SOT consistently, imagine the 13 Pro with the LTPO screen. I was actually thinking of picking up the Mi 11 Ultra, but that god awful battery made me hesitant to even upgrade to it. 6-6:30hrs SOR is what I'm seeing from the phone.. I'd rather 9hrs of SOT and 20w charger than 6hrs of SOT and 67w charger. I just don't see the point of fast charging, if your phone can last the whole day, and then charge overnight. I just really wished these companies focused more on optimization than super fast charging. What's the point if you can charge it overnight? It SHOULD last you the whole day.

Wow, you actually took the words out of my mouth. I just bought an iPhone Pro 13 Max after not really loving the way the Pixel 6 Pro handles photos and so many of the points you made are what went into my decision making to switch to iPhone for the first time. I've been exclusively using Android phones since the "OG" Moto Droid in 2009. In the past few years Android manufacturers instead of doing stuff to make themselves unique and different to Apple have followed nearly everything they've done. From following their lead on headphone jacks, expandable storage, flagship price blowups, and even software decisions. However Apple in that time has embraced some of things that Android phones did or did well... like remember when it never seemed like wireless charging would make it to iPhones? There's now very few hardware features I can be like "Yeah I really can't live with X".. the lightning port was the biggest downside but with the battery life and wireless charging I'm not really anticipating it being a major issue. I've always admired how insanely smooth, fast, and optimized iOS is. The camera is a great example, I can't remember where I saw it but even on the S21 ultra there is STILL shutter lag. You hit that shutter button and half a second later the photo is taken. There are so many times that my wife (iPhone 11) and me are taking a picture of our cat making a face or doing something funny and by the time my camera launches, takes the pic, I've missed it... even if I actually hit the shutter before it ended.. while the iPhone has a clear, frozen shot. Anyway I kind of think back to the OG Droid's marketing back in 2009 in the US. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2aVhYaOrM9qbZY - they marketed this phone specifically to be like "The iPhone doesn't do this, this, this, this... we are" it came off as a which really contrasts what Android manufacturers do today, which frankly feels like following Apple. I guess they figure the core Android audience will always be there and the only way to grow market share and revenue is to convert iPhone users but instead of all that following appealing to an iPhone user it just makes it come off as a second rate clone. Even as I thought I'd be buying the Pixel 6 Pro my mind kept going "Man the iPhone Pro is only $100 more...." because they've done so much to make it seem so similar there was some almost subconscious "Why buy that when you can spend a bit more and get the real deal" attitude going on. I'm sure I'll find out flaws and stuff on iOS that will drive me nuts as well and there's a chance I'll be back on Android sooner than later.. I think the one potential silver bullet Android manufacturers have is foldables though. These will eventually be the standard. People want bigger, bigger, and bigger and we're at the normal candybar limit. They're rough now but they're getting closer to being legit options.. and I think it's likely that Apple will drag their feet and not have a foldable iPhone years into foldables taking a sizeable marketshare of new Android purchases.
@sublime_tv3 жыл бұрын
I feel the shutter button issue. I've been using Samsungs for years because their ads got me. First with the S4, then the S6, then, reluctantly, the S9. I only went with the S9 because I got a great deal and my carrier wasn't selling Pixel phones at the time. While the S9 isn't bad, it's not what I wanted and it's not as smooth as I'd like. When I got the S6 I said "this is what the S4 should have been" (in terms of performance) because the S6 is when Samsung started to remove a LOT of bloat on Touchwiz. I remember running clean android roms on my S4 and it was night and day compared to stock samsung at the time. But I always feel like there's hiccups on Samsung phones; like, they advertise it as flagship specs but their camera shutter has a delay. I could understand that a few years ago but in today's standards that's embarassing, even my S9 does that. I don't use the camera that much but it's these little inconsistencies that will prevent me from buying another Samsung device. I have been eyeing iOS for years, but there's still some features that are lacking for me to switch over (No always on display, no dark mode in Chrome, they still have that HIDEOUS notch) and there are way smoother androids out there so I'll probably try that first.
@RosenblumStudios3 жыл бұрын
@@sublime_tv I switched to iOS a while ago. Chrome on iOS has dark mode (I’m not sure if there’s a way to force websites to use dark mode, though; I switched to Safari, which can force websites to use dark mode with extensions), and the notch totally disappears when you use the phone, so it’s really no big deal at all. The notch has two cameras (vs just one on most Android phones) and a bunch of other hardware, so it’s not like there’s a cleaner way to house that hardware near the top of the phone. You’d need two hole punches instead of one (or a large hole punch that may as well be a notch), then fit everything else in the bezel, and I think it would probably be pretty ugly.
@Patrickdaawsome3 жыл бұрын
Pure curiosity, what don't you like about the Pixel 6 Pro's camera?
@Appleanche53 жыл бұрын
@@Patrickdaawsome The way the Pixels seemed to blow out shadows in comparison images. There was one, it was a picture of a flat area with clouds covering part of it, and the other part sunny. The iPhone and Samsung both kept the shadows more realistic to the human eye while the Pixel blew out the shadows completely and you could hardly tell there was shadowy areas - like way over-processed and over HDR'd and super unnatural looking. This was a constant trend in all the comparions I saw, shadows were brought up way too much and it made a lot of pictures just weird looking IMO. The portrait mode was the other reason, in nearly every blind comparison I kept picking the iPhone because of how natural it looked. The Pixel seemed to be the one that struggled or made the most "errors". I realize almost all of this could be fixed with with a software update but I didn't really want to buy a phone with a promise of "Well a software update COULD make it better" when I clearly already liked the photos the 13 Pros were takiing.

Your intro to this video was my exact thoughts on switching to iOS. I’ve been on android for about 10 years and before that I was on windows mobile lol I’ve always steered clear of having iPhones but this year the software and hardware was sooooo damn compelling. On top of that some family members and close friends have iPhones so that made having iMessage and FaceTime worthwhile features. My last Android device was the Google Pixel 4. On the Pixel, I loved the display, cameras, Google assistant, and the machine learning. I used to be heavy into the customization but these last couple of years I just want my phone to work and be reliable. On the Pixel I got really tired of the bad battery life and having to turn off features including the 90hz display and noticed that a lot of the features have comparable features on iOS, for example the gestures and multitasking. I do miss the Google assistant especially when it was helping with spam callers, prescreening unknown callers, and letting me know when I’m not on hold anymore. I miss having trusted devices and locations, especially during the pandemic and having to where a mask. I prefer Android Auto over CarPlay. I don’t like how Google maps and KZbin music work on iOS and CarPlay compared to how it does on android but that’s probably google’s programmers more than it has to do with iOS. But what I do like about the iPhone and what I’m impressed with is the battery life, the camera, display, and no compromises with features to have a days worth of battery. I don’t mind when a notification goes from the quick view to the Notification Center. Face ID has wider integration and works better than Google’s implementation. Safari browser has impressed me very much with the ability to have extensions on mobile. The speakers have been the most underplayed hardware aspects. They are so rich and LOUD. I was watching a show on HBO Max and felt so immersed with the display and stereo speakers. Apple Pay has been a slightly more pleasant experience but nothing major over Google Pay. I’ve always used 3rd party password managers and Authenticators but Apple has Keychain which does both in one at the system level which means no extra apps but I’ve had to do the long process of manually adding all my credentials to Keychain. And lastly I like how widgets work on iOS better lol

I've been an Android user for years and used to tweak everything on my phone, installed custom ROMs and all that. I haven't felt the need to do that since my teenage years. Give me a stable phone that works well all the time and I'll be super happy. With android, you may or may not get that. It's a gamble every time, and I've never really had an Android phone that was reliable after 2-3 years. I've always bought flagships, too. I'd give iPhones a try, if I don't enjoy it, I can sell it. iPhones even retain their value for longer so you can get a bigger chunk of your money back when you sell it.

I am a hardcore Android user, but: What I only love in iOS is the flawless hardware-software optimization and the silky smooth experience in it plus the simplicity. The Android experience depends on the hardware itself and the options it has. The drawback in iOS is that it does not let you use the phone solely which means it controls you, not the other way round like Android. Plus, the overpriced products from Apple are insane to get the "eco-system" thing which means you pay over 50% more of the price just for the eco-system thing. Bottom line, If the Android phone has a flawless user experience like iOS users then it will be a killer phone that no one will produce.

I switched from iOS to Android around 2015 because of the advent of material design and excitement about Android and its much stronger level of customisation compared to iOS at the time. Earlier in 2021 I ended up switching back to iOS full time after all these years, as Android has gotten more restrictive (in customisation like you mentioned, and also with other annoyances such as SafetyNet I've had to deal with working around). And yeah, iOS has gotten a ton better in the last few years and personally I've found Android has regressed in some ways, especially since Oreo. I'm kinda excited for what's in store in the future from iOS as well, as it's gotten so good. I still wish Apple would go USB-C on the iPhone, though.

It took several hours getting setup, organized, and settled, and I am still figuring things out. There are some annoyances, and notification handling is terrible. But I also feel, because of the closed ecosystem, everything seems to work better - comparing the same apps, the iPhone app is feels better, and even has improved, or even additional, functionality. I do have to admit, being able to tie in my Google account has also helped (contacts, email, photos, files...). So far, so good. No regrets.

I have been an Android user for over 12 years. Recently, I have bought the iPhone 13 Pro. After almost a week, I decided to give it as a gift and return to the Android ecosystem. iOS is way behind Android regarding customization. You can't even move an icon to an empty space. You cannot switch 2 icons between them. When you move an icon, all the neighboring icons move too. It is so frustrating and annoying. I have found over 30 things that I could do on Android and not on iOS. Hardcore Apple fans told me that those are "features, not bugs". Makes me laugh :) Only good thing about iOS is that is is a little more reliable, considering the fact that the apps are made for like 10-15 phones, unlike apps for android that have to work with thousands of phones with different hardware.

Long time android user here that just switched to iPhone 13 Pro. I’m mostly enjoying my experience so far. My top 3 gripes are the keyboard, certain customization aspects, and lightning. The stock keyboard is pretty good. But not having the ability to toggle a dedicated number bar up top, or long press to add punctuation just makes me crazy. Customization wise I really only dislike the ability to not turn off certain features, like “suggested” or “recently added” in the App Library. Or not being able to move the search bar from the left most screen to my Home Screen as a widget. And finally, lightning. Why Apple? Why did my new iPad Mini come with USB C, but my iPhone has lightning??? Honestly I use MagSafe 99% of the time just to not have to fumble around with which cable is which in the dark…

Pull down on the lockscreen for instant search on any home screen page. No widget necessary. You can download a new keyboard just like on Android, and never use the stock one if you'd like. If you don't like the App Library, just put an app on the homescreen and use that, or use spotlight to immediately pull it up. The whole point of the app library is that it learns how you use your phone and changes to anticipate what you need. If you want consistency, put it on your homescreen, or search. Lightning has been around for some time now, and there are many more cables out there than you'd think that would be thrown away if they suddenly switched to usb c. I'm assuming they introduced Magsafe to facilitate the change over to induction based charging for all platforms, as induction charging using a universal standard (Qi) is much less likely to change radically than a data/charge combination port.

Great review. I was kind of worried you were going to switch to this as your main device. The thing is, tech KZbin has a major Apple fixation. Apple's great, don't get me wrong, but almost every tech KZbinr uses iPhone as their daily driver. It's hard to find many that actually primarily use Android, so it's nice that you do. It's a different perspective on reviews. Normally we have to get a review of a Pixel or Samsung or whatever phone from an Apple user's perspective, who will use it for a week, mainly trying out the camera, and go back to iPhone right after. iPhones reviews are great because they're from people who use the iPhone all the time and can tell you definitively whether it's a good upgrade or not. But they can't really properly do that with Android phones because they don't use them in the same way they use their iPhones. All of this to say, great review, enjoy the 13 Pro, and I'm glad you're not permanently switching. You offer a somewhat unique perspective in the tech KZbin space.

@@jaygold14 Haven't been having any issues. I do custom builds and do about 3 per week for others. I guess you should reach out to Nova Launch with your concerns. IDK my friend.

Been following tech channels on KZbin for ages and reluctant to join new ones.. get stuck in a routine etc. But this video is the most informative iPhone 13 review I've seen. I'm subscribing because the quality is excellent and I learned a lot I hadn't seen from 8 other videos from bigger channels. Excellent work 👍

I appreciate that you mentioned the consistency of the three cameras. That's something that I rarely see people mention, but it is important. I love my OnePlus 7T in many ways, but....the main sensor is great, the telephoto is nice but has _very_ different colors, and the ultrawide looks like it's from an entirely different phone.
@eamonob842 жыл бұрын
MKBHD actually mentioned that in his review as well, and when he and Mr. Whostheboss talked about Android vs iOS. He said the cameras have been more consistent than Pixel and Galaxy.

I’ve been using Android exclusively since the Nexus 5 and I’ve just ordered an iPhone 13 Pro Max earlier today.

I was a lifelong android user till iPhone 13 pro max. It was a best decision I ever made, compliments my MacBook very well. Continuity and handoff features are awesome I do miss icon customization like android, but, overall iOS is bloody awesome

I've been saying the 2 OS are getting closer. Switching is now more about do you already have an Apple ID or Google Account? Do you have USB C everything? Then Lightning is a pain, and do you like the design?

😂😂😂 true

just buy a few spare lightning to usb-c cables and you're good.

This isn't abt who is better. Its abt who is to who. IOS is the thng 4 lazy, old and camera pple. On the other hand, android is 4 tweakers, thinkers and customisers. U just gotta decide who u are

I was a long term iPhone user until I switched to android many generations ago. I recently bought the iPhone 13 Pro Max for the ProRes video option, so I haven't really switched to using the iPhone from my Samsung Note 10+ 5G as my main mobile device. Slowly but surely will make the move...Great video by the way!!!

Multi active window, edge panel, AOD, Smart things, Bixby routines, lock screen widgets...yeah it's not really and Android or iOS thing, it's a Samsung thing and there's no way I'm paying more for less because of "fluidity". Just me though. 😊

My iPad and boredom with android helped me switch to iOS. iPad iPhone Apple Watch and Alexa in the home and everything is just seamless and fluid.

Wow, awesome video. It feels like you made it just for me. I've been on Android since I got my first smartphone and I'm finally thinking about giving iOS a try with the 13. I've been a bit underwhelmed by the Pixel 6 launch and that's basically the only android phone that really revs my engine anyways. The main things I don't think I will enjoy about iOS are notifications and the sort of "claustrophobia" I associate with the way iOS flows. But this review makes me think it'll be an easier transition!
@ertgb_2 жыл бұрын
I can confirm that the transition is easy. After hearing everything about iOS, I saved up the cash to buy an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and the switch took about 25 minutes from an awful Moto phone (used the switch to iOS app in the google play store) and everything just worked after that!
