@@TheCamAlexanderyep, sold my ZV-1 and I don’t regret it. However, I have barely used my iPhone. I just don’t vlog much. I have an A7 IV and am a bit of a quality snob so I’ve just realized that I’d rather use my A7 IV if quality is that important or my iPhone camera will do. I was always disappointed with the minimal quality increase I got from using the ZV-1 over just an iPhone.

@@CraylorI have an iPhone 14 PM and a very old Sony A7R 1 with a Tokina 85mm f1.8 for photography sessions and special events. On my iPhone I mostly use the 2x ( close to 50mm ) for photographing friends. Would you recommend me to get the Sony ZV 1 in my situation and love for 50mm and 85mm ( both focal lengths that my iPhone 14 PM suck at )?

I personally use the Iphone 14 pro for vlogging now as it is super convenient to just pull out and record without drawing in much attention. My mirrorless camera I still use but for planned travel trips & other videos where I dont mind carrying a bigger camera (with sometimes a huge ass gimbal)

How do you manage to aim the phone camera without seeing it? In terms of walking and walking in a vlog... Is there tricks you can do?

If you level your face on the camera sensor, you will get yourself in the frame all the time.

I'd like to see a comparison of the stabilization if you run the footage through catalyst browse. I understand that most people won't use it, but it is the best option with any Sony camera. Shutter speed needs to be set to 125 or above, preferably 200. Also auto will crop too much. Usually it works well if you set the manual crop to 10% crop (90% coverage).

I just sold my Zv-1 & A6400. Don't need them anymore with an iPhone 13Pro or above. I'm currently on the iPhone 14Pro. It's just soooo good w/ DJI Wireless Mic w/ Rode Smart Lav+ Lav Mic +6DB on both Reciever & Transmitter. Cinematic mode w/ F7.1-8 is the sweet spot for the background blur. Lower than that starts to look fake.

I don't see what testing an external mic proves. Its going to sound exactly the same. It comes down to what the mic sounds like and has nothing to do with the device its plugged into.

How is the quality? iPhone footage looks great on TINY 6" phone screen but as soon as you put it on a 4K TV you can see pixel and it's REALLY bad. So I am curious if you also take into consideration the quality of footage as well?

In short - phone is good until everything is good :) but if you have not perfect scene setup (especially lack of light), dedicated camera is all that you should use

The iPhone 14 Pro is nearly 3 times the Sony ZV-1 price, and it's pros and cons are comparable.The ergonomics and handling are much better on the ZV-1. if you are into candid photography, the ZV-1's very good. For video, the Sony RX-1 Mk7 is much better than the ZV-1, and still much cheaper than the iPhone 14 Pro.

I'd like to switch up my approach with more "talking head" segments, and was wondering if it would just be easier to upgrade my iphone due to portability and convenience. Stabilization on the iphone was awesome, but the sound was definitely more muffled. I'd probably have to add an external mic for vlogging.

if talking head content, I would even go for the cheaper Sony ZV-1F. It has wider field of view. It doesnt zoom like ZV-1 but that wont matter for vloggers.

Oh yes, definitely. On the camera app there's "f" which you can change aperture from f2 to 16.

I am not a vlogger nor do i plan on taking videos. its more of pictures. nice! good luck! actually, if you are just doing an overhead drawing content, start with you have, if you have a very good phone with 4k. then once you get monetized, start buying gears. you dont want to be "creator-poor" in the beginning by buying all sorts pf youtube gears.

I started this whole KZbin journey using a phone. Instead on focusing on video quality, try to talk and connect with your audience, get a good mic and make good quality content that people will either learn or be entertained. then you will blow up! 😉 once you get bigger, upgrade your gears because..... people would want to see more of you. but not upgrading just because you feel the footage isnt good enough. youre right, always shoot in bright condition. less noise and artifacts on the video.
