YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! KZbinrs complain for clicks. While I upgrade every year, 99 percent of consumers do not. Smartphones are now like automobiles: small upgrades every year and a major redesign every 5-7 years. AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile offer device financing plans that vary in length. AT&T and Verizon typically provide 36-month financing options for smartphones, while T-Mobile offers a 24-month device financing term. That’s the real world upgrade schedule.

@GregsGadgets Completely unrelated, but I switch because Samsung tends to aggressively optimise their memory usage by sleeping unused apps, but that mess with a lot of function in many app Discord, for example, if you hide the app while Screen Sharing, the screen sharing and mic will freeze unless you're going to setting then exclude Discord from optimization. But the main reason why I change is because LanguageTool isn't available on Android. There's also a 3rd party password manager issue, but that is less of a problem.

iPhone 16 Pro Max is an excellent phone. Year-over-year upgrades are not often meant to be substantial anymore, in a mature smart phone market. The Camera Control button has definitely become more useful with the adjustments in 18.1 and 18.2. I’m glad you gave the Audio Mix feature the attention and rating it deserves. Performance and battery life are great. I’m really looking forward to iOS 18.4.

The market in the UK can be a little different compared to the USA but unlike some android devices, especially in relation to processors, an iPhone is an iPhone globally, identical and that’s why for me it’s the phone to have. I have a 16 Pro and it’s fantastic. Great battery, excellent camera and the fact that it’s a one handed device with all that and a 5x zoom makes it pretty prefect. I’ll be keeping this for 2/3 years. 👌🏾

However, with my latest iPhone 16 Pro Max model, for the first time, I feel I could skip the yearly upgrade ritual and keep this phone for two years - or longer. Its capabilities will not be obsolete for the next 4 years - in my opinion. It is THAT good.

The consternation online has been a bit overblown. I've been using an XR since Jan of 2020, but I know it was released in 2018. Battery is pretty bad nowadays and I got a 16 Pro. People are shtting on it when they upgrade from last year since it wasn't meant to be a big upgrade compared to the phone I can from to what I have now. Not a huge upgrade for them, but for me? From Lightning to USB C, 1 lens to 3 lenses, 120 HZ screen, better processor to play my games in which WUWA is one and it uses lots of resources. 5g I don't really care for, but nice.

I am coming from a 2018 XR and upgraded to the regular 16. Even that was a massiv jump! 2 cameras (one with 48 mpix that enables a 2X telephoto), 8 Gig RAM from 3 Gig (which I noticed very much), 6 generations newer CPU, much better battery life, smaller and lighter, OLED display (no problem with 60 Hz)!

Love my 16 ultramarine 256gb. It’s camera, Dynamic Island and a18 chip are a huge upgrade over my iPhone 13 128gb. It also has twice the ram (8gb vs 4gb) and has many pro features like the action button and the same chip and ram as the pro. The previous two base iPhones (15 and 14) which had the last generation chip, the 16 gets the same chip as the pro just like the 12 and 13 but with slightly less cache and 1 less gpu core. I’m willing to live without those to have an iPhone that’s closer to the pro than ever (even having the same 8gb ram and features). Apple intelligence is nice because I can type to Siri and it can predict responses for texts and it’s very useful to me. The pro max looks dope af, especially with that gameboy emulator.

I think, most people either upgrade way too fast or just criticise the other side without knowing well enough. For example, if someone switches to android from iOS, they're going to feel a much greater change despite no significant upgrade unless you had an older iphone

It’s undoubtedly better in performance and quite noticeable. I wish it could last a full day from around 6 AM to 10 PM, but unfortunately, it doesn’t. Consequently, I still need to rely on the MagSafe Battery Pack. Additionally, I wish the low-light performance, particularly in photography, were better. When comparing it to my previous iPhone 13 Pro Max, I was surprised to find that it appeared significantly worse. However, in adequate lighting, it undoubtedly looks much better. When I upgrade in the future I want the low light performance to significantly improve, all cameras to have 48MP sensors, more RAM hopefully 12 GB and a chip as powerful as the M2 chip.

Thanks for this video as I agree with everything you said 100 percent! I honestly think that once we get ios18 few bugs updated, this line will go down as one of the solid releases like the iPhone 11 line! There is very little to really complain about outside of a redesign! Even the camera button doesn’t really take away from anything if you don’t like it. Just turn it off or map it for instagram or something. I personally use it to simply launch the camera quickly. I think the 17 line will come out and they may redesign the camera layout and possibly change up the material on the back. Cool, but once you slap a case on it, it will feel like another iPhone from the front lol! That’s no hate to the 17, I’m just saying it’s not going to be this life changing phone. I would argue those days are past us regardless of which brand you buy.

I am not really into mobile phones. I was happy to use a OnePlus 6 for 6.5 years and it worked very well, even the battery stayed strong and lasted for a day and a half after all those years. I upgraded it for an iPhone 16 Pro in November, mainly for security reasons, cameras and to integrate it with my MacBook. My first impressions were: why is it so thick and heavy? It is thicker and heavier than a 6.5 y.o. OnePlus despite having a slightly smaller screen. When I am holding both phones, the old OnePlus 6 feels like a more modern phone. Is IOS 18 a huge upgrade from a 4 y.o. Android? Maybe, yes, is some respects, but nothing ground breaking. The cameras are excellent, bearing in mind the tiny weenie sensor any proper photo camera would feel embarrassed about. The screen is better. The phone is more secure to use, Face ID works seamlessly. The 256 Gb storage is useful. Am I over the moon? Not really. By the end of the day it is just another smartphone with an added not-so-smart AI, which is more of a toy and a gimmick at this stage. Two things that I am happy with are the added security and the cameras. The downside is weight and bulk. Other than that, having spent over an hour adjusting it to my needs and switching off all those dozens of unnecessary, spying and battery draining features, duh, it's just another phone with a camera. You have guessed by now that I don't subscribe to an iPhone cult.

I don’t feel totally disappointed in my 16 PM but… the stuttering when pro motion is not working as intended, the phone getting very hot for no apparent reason (much like the 14PM at launch), the intermittent issues with touches not being registered and that most, if not all, Apple intelligence features won’t be available until April 2025 at the earliest (for users in the EU) does make me feel like Apple kinda failed with the launch of the iPhone 16 line. Love the battery life and the screen in general though. Hopefully 18.3 or 18.4 will make iOS feel as intended at launch. Thanks for a great video!

Great video mate. Personally I absolutely love my 16 Pro Max. I upgraded from the 14 Pro Max which I loved but I wanted to shoot in ProRes HDR & Log video, the studio quality mics for better audio capture without an external mic, Apple intelligence has been a daily game changer for me personally in every day productivity usage and I wanted a better performance the A18 Pro chip provides for on device video editing, multitasking and battery efficiency.

The performance is really good and unlike most people I actually use the camera control button a lot on my 16 pro max. I have never used the apple intelligence and never will. I also have the S24 Ultra and have never used any of its intelligence features either and I've owned that phone since August. The 16 pro max is a great phone. and battery life lasts me all day. As far as the GQ looks, it is the case it goes into that I am looking at. Goes into a case as soon as it comes out of the box. When the average user doesn't notice much of a different this is what matters and what that we affect sales. Sure Mac zealots are going to dig deep to justify their love, but to the average Apple customer if they don't notice it in their daily use it doesn't matter to them. That is true of all types of products not just Apple stuff the average buying are the ones spending the most money and keep stockholder happy. Do I own a iPhone 16 no, I still have my iPhone 14 and from what I'm reading about what coming don't plan to update my iPhone for quite awhile. Even my Mac's for my audio work I don't see a lot going on to make me think about updating for awhile. Technology has plateau'd and I don't think that is going end anytime soon especially with the economy getting worse.

Apple announced their analytics that prove phone users are now upgrading on average every four years, so they sensibly understand that you can spread upgrades over that 4-year period. Even Samsung now understand that and are copying. This is common sense and logical. People that upgrade yearly are a small percentage.
@DojoOfCoolКүн бұрын
@@andyH_England I think the bigger problem is the smartphone market has matured technology wise and not a lot more to add to smartphones. AI is the one place phone makers are hoping to give them updates to lure people into spending money. Apple long term focus with the silicon has been for robotics and AI server farms. There is already talk about M6 moving back to more traditional chip design because for AI server farms that make more sense.

The Apple fanboydom in here has reached levels that shouldn't even be possible. Apple has stopped innovating and has been releasing the same shit year after year, they have released their buggiest iOS version yet, iOS as a whole has turned into an utter buggy mess with no direction, focus or vision, they created a whole marketing campaign on a feature that didn't even exist and the bits that were rolled out are highly underwhelming. The Apple apologists need to take a seat... the only "praise" I hear is slight camera improvements and microphone improvements as if that's reason enough to upgrade. Apple is losing its touch and that's a fact.

💯 The 16 PM, my particular poison, is phenomenal. Apple marketing probably has to take some of the heat for all the hate, but once one takes the phone for what it is and uses it on the daily, dissatisfaction with it, one quickly comes to see, is not phone's fault. The screen is "gorgina" and the battery is brilliant. Camera control is alright but it shouldn't feed the expectation that breeds disappointment. Apple Intelligence, too, is, well, meh. I find myself enjoying Genmoji but that doesn't contribute to my appreciation of the device. It's simply exceptional, and I'm coming from a 14 PM. The 16 PM is hands down the best phone I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot, inside and outside Apple's so-called walled garden. 👌

Don’t buy iPhones for AI. Buy iPhones if you’re loaded and getting into their ecosystem. If you want AI get a Pixel or Samsung. Apple AI a joke 🤡

I think the big idea here is that people forgot how fortunate they have been since the phone came out to them being upset and bored now that it doesn't WOW people with Innovation 😮 Like if you drove ferraris all your life the newest one wouldn't impress you 🤷🏾♂️

Too big. Found the 15 Pro too bad and instead of reducing the bezels coupled with improved processor efficiency and screen efficiency that improve battery life so they could make it smaller, they instead put on a bigger screen and make it overall even bigger. Stop it.

Love your work, Greg! Just a quick one for clarity - you simply state "16 Pro" in the title and refer to it as such many times throughout the video, but then you also show both the Pro AND Pro Max together a couple of times and then quite often refer specifically to your Pro Max (which I assume is your daily driver) - is this video referring to the full Pro range (Pro and Pro Max), or the Pro Max only? As a 16 Pro owner, my main reason for clicking on the video was to see what the hate was for the Pro and your reasons why they're wrong, but then it felt like you were perhaps only talking about the Pro Max. Either way, I upgraded from a base iPhone 12 to the 16 Pro (not 16 Pro Max, haha!) and beyond not having any real issues to speak of, am absolutely LOVING the experience - from bezels to screen quality to refresh rate to tricks and tips to camera to ease of use and how it runs on iOS 18 and more, every day is just a joy on an upgrade that I have found to be truly worthwhile. Good on ya, sir!

I've never had an iPhone. I've always used android, currently on the pixel 7 pro. I was thinking about trying iPhone simply to see another operating system. After looking at various sources I've heard that the next 17 pro is probably going to get a redesign and some extra ram and potentially carbon silicon battery. I was going to get the 16 pro max but with apple intelligence being so heavily pushed but not even released at launch and instead rolled out over time. It feels like buying into a promise with it only being fully rolled out close to the time of the 17 line up. I've also heard that people are experiencing very strange bugs with the screen going blank randomly and when recording. So I'm torn between the next pixel 10xl and the 17 pro max later this year. The pixel will probably keep with tradition of giving the new phone a free year of Google one for a year with gemini advanced. The reason I didn't go with the pixel 9 xl is because the 10xl will be using TSMC next time. I don't game on phones, but photo and video is an important feature for me.

If you really want the best Android phone, go with either the S25 Ultra or Pixel 9 Pro (if you want an iPhone like Android phone). Or you could wait for the Pixel 10 Pro and compare it with the S25 Ultra. But if you really want an iPhone, wait for 6 months after they release the iphone 17 Pro to iron out any issues that may arise during launch.

I think you are correct , people have stupid expectations , in the end these are just media and communication devices , these dipsticks expecting life changing magical features that will change their mediocre lives are just delusional. It’s not like earlier days when phones were new technology and quite unrefined where we consumers couldn’t wait every year for the new model to see well needed improvements in hardware and software. If I go back to my 2017 phone a galaxy S8+ , that phone could take quite good photos , it performed fairly well and it had a pile of hardware features , the following year my Galaxy note 9 was the hamburger with the lot that in many ways even shames todays Galaxy ultra( I still use that phone around the house at times), phones have gotten a bit more powerful with extra camera features , a bit more power and more refined software, , but in the end these latest model phones can’t do much more than 6 year old phones , and in some ways they can do less , due to companies removing some hardware features , but no denying they do everything faster and with less fuss than the oldies due to refinement. I look at one two hate videos to see if they are legit problems, more often than not they are just click bait for tubers to get their view count up , it’s got to the point where often it is the same offenders doing the hate videos time and time again, I actively no longer view these sorts of negative videos.

Only disappointment is that no design change for the 16 pro or pro max, people asking oh you got a new iphone, is that 14 or 15, gosh i need to say that it's a 16 😂 Other than that all good Battery life was awasome out of the box but i think after 18.2 i see a bit of a down, may b im wrong and just my mind, photos becomes a bit dark after processing than it actually shows before the image was taken, phone will get hotter when using the AI features, ofc expecting a fix for that in 18.2.1 Other than that all good, I've been a samsung S series user for almost 15 years, a bit disappointed in the first month because of the less brighter and sharper display, but now im used to it 😅

I can't give up Gemini for apple unintelligent... or the atrocious way ios treats back button. And when will ios allow for 2 apps in split screen. This is why I can't get an iPhone at this time. Oh, also I hate the 30% apple tax in the appstore.

You need to take the industry benchmark. See how much improved Samsung, pixel, vivo, oppo .. devices are. You won't notice a major difference in 11 pro and 16 pro images. That's the problem. Apple lost the generational gap in photography, performance, optimisations. iOS used to be the flawless kid, now it's having too many bug's and waiting for AI where competitors are in Gen 2.

I love the iphone 16 pro max. It has a beautiful and large screen, it feels somehow slimmer than the iphone 15 pro max, even though they are the same thickness. I am a woman with small hands, while the iphone 16 pro max is not big at all and it could even be a little thicker. I also have an android phone, but they just can't compete with the iphone, yet, because iOS is smoother, faster, more convenient, and a well-handling phone and the camera is very good! I feel, see and experience that the iPhone 16 pro max is of very high quality both inside and out and I like that the iPhone design is still the same, although it has been gradually changed a little, so I really hope that the iPhone will not be changed too much, because otherwise it will no longer be an iPhone. For my sake, let these fools scream, “that the same iPhone as every year and that it is a boring phone”, then I can boldly say that exactly the same can be said about Android phones like Samsung and many others, all this is just the cry of fools and either these people do not have a Living Life and or there is no life outside of phones, because the iPhone has changed its phone design quite a lot in recent years, whoever does not see or feel it is blind! So, the iPhone is of high quality inside and out and this AI program is not for me anyway, for that I have a mind, hands and feet to find and explore what I want, although I have also started using the iPhone too much, I need to get myself in order more!

Did Apple shoot you and e-mail ? First cnet does a video on studio quality on mics. Now you bring it up too. Looks like Apple sales are slowing down. A survey done most people don't care about AI. I think apple is smart to use chat gpt. So when AI fizzles out they don't have a big investment in it. If I'm wrong about AI and I'm not, Apple will charge a monthly service fee.
@andyH_EnglandКүн бұрын
Apple has already stated that they see AI as part of iOS and have no intention of charging for it. Of course, if you use ChatGPT via Siri you will have limited access and have to buy a subscription if you use it a lot, and no one should complain about that. Studio quality mics, they are good but I would not buy a new iPhone just for that. I agree about AI, the vast majority could not care, and even I do not use it and I am a hardcore techie. Apple sales are no doubt slowing down, the whole industry has peaked.

@Aggie4life77Күн бұрын
It’s definitely an upgrade from that, but not life changing. Brighter screen, better speakers, satellite, better cameras, faster chip, better mics, Always on Display, Dynamic Island and Apple intelligence which as Greg said will have Siri 2.0 which is what people are really waiting for! It will also have additional AI features that the 13 Pro will never get. With all that said, you could have waited for the 17 no problem.
