What can I do when some pads of the backlight ic are broken ? Is there a way to repair it. It was my first attempt to unsolder such a chip and it went wrong un fortunatly. I tried some things but nothing worked for the moment. I should have watched your videos before, thanks a lot for them , I learned a lot.

In my experience the U1502 hardly fails. I just remove the bad cap and replace the diode and the coil and it's good to go. But she's right, the solder balls beneath the chip can go out if you apply to much heat. Then you'll have more work having to re-ball the IC. Also if you're not careful while looking for the bad cap or something else you can crack the IC ☹️

Good day to you, I have a backlight problem with my iPhone 6s. The phone vibrates when I toggle the vibrate switch and the phone charges. I made a mistake of plugging a new LCD replacement without unplugging the battery, which caused a short with the motherboard, I smelled a diode burning when I plug the new lcd screen. The screen sometimes comes on when I turn the phone on and off and I can faintly see the screen with the assistance of a flashlight and was able to unlock my phone. I was wonder how much do you charge to fix this issue and how can I contact you. Thank you

Hello people, Greetings Jessa. I got this iPhone 6 with no backlight, client claims that he dropped the phone and took it to a third part repair shop but they didn't repair anything. When I opened it, I saw the shields were gone. I measured in diode mode and got 0,1 as a result. I took C1505 out and remeasured, got 0,64 this time so I guess the short is gone. I tried to find it C1505 was a wire, it was not. Also, the backlight driver's pads were ripped off (8 out of 12 are gone), the backlight's driver is missing and so is the backlight's coil. The pads of these 2 are looking ok. So, my question is plain and simple : is there still any chance to get this phone working (even if it involves hard work) ? Also, Jessa, you are wonderful. Love your vidz, love the way you explain, you rock !
@JessaJones
@JessaJones 6 жыл бұрын
In theory yes-put on a backlight driver, diode and coil. Every pad must connect to the driver. With 8 missing I would probably pass on the job since it is an older phone now, but it is definitely possible

You can tell the coil is damaged if it looks just like the one on that board. Cracked and with the green stuff coming out of it. If you don't replace it you won't have full brightness and it will also flicker, like Jessa said.

Hey, I've been becoming more familiar with my multimeter and I'm trying to get away from continuity testing like you said. I have been comparing diode mode readings to "known good" circuits and just going off of obvious differences, but I really want to understand what the multimeter is doing, and what those readings mean. When testing that backlight circuit, you said ~.5v is normal. What does that imply? Wouldn't resistance to ground be measured in ohms?
