iPhone 8 Plus in 2024: Better Than You Think!

I still use my iPhone 8 Plus 256GB as my full-time phone. I have a newer iPhone I only use for the camera. I love the home button and the feel of the iPhone 8 Plus. It was the widest phone Apple ever made and the keyboard is so easy to type compared to some of the newer phones. The A11 Bionic chip was the first Bionic chip ever made and it was the first chip that could use all 6 CPU cores simultaneously unlike the previous chips which was a breakthrough in performance at the time, and honestly, the phone was overpowered for its time and I believe that’s why the iPhone 8 Plus still performs well 7 years later. If you have a iPhone 7 plus the iPhone 7 plus can’t perform well today like the 8 plus can because of the A11 Bionic chip. The camera is 7 years old and expectations should be considerate of that fact. The 8 Plus was the first iPhone to introduce Portrait Lighting and was a great camera 7 years ago. Batteries are inexpensive compared to the cost of a new phone. I had my 8 Plus’s battery changed over 4 months ago and is still at 100% capacity I charge the phone 3-4 times a day as I am an Uber driver and content creator so I’m a very heavy user and it hasn’t phased the battery capacity. In light use (social media scrolling, KZbin) I find the 8 plus to be comparable to the newer iPhone as the iOS 16 is so well optimized at this point as it’s been out for 2 years now. I think for the average person the iPhone 8 Plus is a great phone. Society is constantly marketed to buy the latest phone but the iPhone 8 Plus is still a great phone and an incredible testament to Apple’s innovation. The sad part is apps will stop supporting iOS 16 probably by the end of 2025 as many apps have dropped support for iOS 15 and after 2025 the iPhone 8 Plus will be limited in its capabilities.

@ Apple announced that the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, as well as the iPhone X, would not support iOS 17 due to hardware limitations.

@@tech.titans.official I believe the iPhone 8 Plus could have run iOS 17 smoothly but after 6 years of updates I understand they had to eventually end somewhere. My evidence is the iPhone XR which also has 3GB of ram supports the latest IOS 18. Heck the iPhone 8 Plus could probably ran ios 18 but Apple needed to start pushing iPhone 8 Plus and IPhone X users towards newer devices.

I picked up one of these for $20 because the sim tray doesn't work and neither does the tru tone. It's been a great secondary device for music/podcasts/youtube/offline Netflix/etc. It's been nice not having to charge my regular phone once or twice per day.

I’m using my iPhone 8 Plus (256 GB) as my work phone and my iPhone SE 2nd Generation (256 GB) as my main phone. Both phone works perfectly up till this date.

Also watching from an 8 plus. I will depart ways with it soon once iphone 16 PM hits the shelves in my region, but it will always hold a special place in my heart as my first iphone and besides the battery health and malfunctioning charging port, the phone that lasted me the longest.

Holy cow I have my 8+ since 2018, I'm looking forward to changing it this December tho, it misses a lot of upgrades the newer iPhones have, not to mention that it has deadass big bezels and feels older for nowadays usage.
