It will be September when you make the inevitable why you switched back to the iPhone 16 pro max or if you get desperate to make content you will just make a video of why you switched back to the 15 pro max. Reminding us why the titanium is a better quality than the Samsung and the ecosystem. I’m tempted as I’m also bored of the iPhone. It’s all I’ve used since they came out.

This isn't a criticism of you, but I don't think it'll be more than 3 months. Not because Android isn't as good as iOS, or because the Pro Max 15 is a better phone (from what I've read, it really isn't), or because you're a fanboy (I've watched enough videos to know you are objective, which I value). I just get the feeling that people who value frictionless 'continuity' between different devices are better served either in an Apple- or in a Windows/Android-land. I think there is something to Marques Brownlee's insistence that a user shouldn't pick a phone based on what their preferred laptop is, but most of us only have one phone and, if you do work across devices, it is so valuable to have less friction. I'll be watching this with interest because I'd like to be wrong, I just can't afford to do that experiment myself. Good luck! EDIT: I also have the same privacy concerns as your co-host. I might be being naive there, but there you go.

Right up until you put your S24 Ultra in your pants pocket and find out how incredibly uncomfortable it is to carry around. The S23 Ultra was annoying in the pocket, the S24 Ultra even more so. Oh well, then there's also the absence of face unlock, magsafe, better apps, etc. Sorry, been there, done that. Samsung should have dropped the S-pen as approx. no one is asking for, made the phone smaller and rounded the corners.

I agree about iOS becoming boring. While Apple keeps tweaking areas like the camera, and other apps - it's hugely neglected the phone functions, and really - in comparison to Android phones, call screening is far too basic. Third-party apps (at least here in the UK) aren't up to much either. Switched to a Pixel 8 Pro and the difference has been extraordinary. But even when I tried a S22 back in the day, it had far better call screening capabilities than the iPhone ever will have.

@garyelsworth68428 ай бұрын
You actually tackled the big issues that stop me switching some time ago, that is you moved away form Apple only apps to those universal apps. I have tried this many times, but always go back to iPhone for the quality of apps. I really don't care too much about the hardware, it’s the software (ie apps) that I find difficult when switching. If I could find an android set up that offers the same level of integration between apps that I enjoy on Apple (iOS/Mac) I’d happily switch tomorrow. However, having tried it many times, I find myself always having to compromise, and Android just doesn’t offer enough to overcome that. It would be interesting to hear something about this side of it as you continue your android journey (particularly that other issue that occurs with Samsung phones, the duplication of apps with those that google brings. Look forward to sharing your journey - enjoy!

I like android but the duplication in apps from Samsung really get on my nerves. Also, when something goes wrong, it’s always hard to pinpoint whether it’s googles or Samsungs fault ie. Google play services were draining my galaxy watch 5 battery in a few hours, apparently it was a known issue but I only managed to fix it 2 resets later, I also had to make sure I closed all apps running on the background whenever I used googles assistant in the watch which was several times a day. Soooo annoying! I’m now with apple but if I switch to android again, I’m gonna go with the pixel.

To be honest there’s very little difference. I used Apple computers since 2007 then switched to Windows in 2017 as Apple at the time just weren’t innovating. Then with Apple Silicon and the Mac Studio moved back. I’d always preferred macOS. It was a month in that I went full Apple and I’m enjoying the switch. I was using a One Plus, there’s very little difference I find in the phones themselves it’s just if you use a Mac having iCloud, Airdrop and shared clipboard is very handy. Still think icon placement is terrible in iOS and how you can’t quit all apps in one go. I also don’t like how the iPhone doesn’t always detect taps. If I didn’t use a Mac though I’d use an android phone.

Unfortunately the two devices have been engineered to be incompatible. It’s unfortunate that it will probably take government action to provide consumers with access to the variety of choices available.

A very good friend said when I mentioned switching the S24 Ultra, "Never looked at Samsung products seriously because their software has always been a nightmare from spyware to broken customized android to android itself. And lack of consistency with the rest of my ecosystem isn't nice...just switching between Apple Watch (my addition), iPad, and iPhone is lovely and they can't match that experience." I remember when Unix billed itself as, "an open operating system." So any ecosystem really means keeping you and your money within the fold. I had the first iPod, the first iPhone, and so on. I am tired of Apple's complacency, poor software quality, and so on. I remember my first iMac in 2003 (I did own an Apple //e previously) using migration assistant to move from my WinDoze laptop. My jaw dropped. Today, not so much. Mark, thanks for keeping it real for us normal people. BTW I was just looking at my Samsung chicklet blackberry keyboard mobile...I really did like at the time!

My wife still has her 14 ProMax and the biggest differences I notice are a) insane battery life on all SS products b) screen brightness outdoors c) DEX and d) copy-and-paste clipboard inc. history...and that's before being able to create a Filter Library for tweaking photo's to suite your personal preferences (at the time of taking the shot).

I tried the Samsung flip phone (not the latest version) a year or two ago now and was not thrilled. I have switched the phone number of that phone over to my iPhone 14 Max as a second business number. The Samsung is somewhere in a bag or drawer. Of course, the smart phone and related devices have become must haves in the modern lifestyle, especially when it comes to business. None of any of this is perfect, however, including the cell service in my area. The iPhone is far from perfect, yet switching just to try something new at this point would just be too much, as so much of what I do is tied to Apple Notes and the Apple system. I do use Gmail and my calendar and contacts are synced using with the Google Calendar, so maybe someday….

I was going to switch to a S24 Ultra from an iPhone 15 Pro Max, but decided to go for a Pixel 8 Pro because (a) cheaper, and (b) Google's phone screening features are superb. Android 14, for me at least, has everything I need and hasn't caused any problems with the transition. I think my three favourite Android phones at the moment are the Pixel 8 Pro, Sony Xperia 5 V, and the S24 Ultra. But regardless of whatever anybody chooses, Android phones have come a long way and definitely good enough to give Apple a run for their money. My only complaint about the Samsung ecosystem is that the Watch 6 can't be paired with a Pixel 8 Pro for 4G connectivity. Works fine in all other ways, but the 4G stuff is strictly limited to Samsung phones. I had to send back my Galaxy Watch 6 back as a result - and it's a shame, because it's a *fantastic* watch.
@colinbooth5318 ай бұрын
About the ecosystem. You don't need to get the galaxy watch, there are dozens of credible alternatives such as the amazfit balance, the pixel or Xiaomi watch, garmin etc. I wouldn't get a galaxy watch because the battery life is pants, like any WearOS watch. I had an apple watch until I got the S24U, then got the Amazfit Balance, and the battery lasts 15 days! I love not having to charge it every 1.5 days. I left apple and haven't looked back. I love the customisation, the S-pen, the screen, the battery life (I go to bed with35-45% left, 6am to 11pm), I'd never go back to apple.

I literally just did that yesterday! Got my s24 ultra and Galaxy watch pro. Currently selling the iPad and Apple watch. I feel if I make it harder to go back to iOS I will keep using my Galaxy. I've tried the s23 ultra. Forl 3,4,5 but always go back to Apple. iOS is not as polished as it used to be. So I'm giving Android a worth shot right now. Honeymoon phase but I'm enjoying it so far

I tried several times to switch to Android smartphones (Galaxy Notes, I loved those things). But each time I had to give up because of Apple's golden prison: iCloud, Photos and apps like Things, etc.... You can always replace iCloud with Dropbox and Photos with Google Photos or Lightroom, but that means changing everything on all your other devices: macs, ipads... And I really like the Apple Watch for... its straps, especially the woven, elastic straps that you don't find with other connected watches. What's more, Samsung decided overnight to do away with its cloud (which I didn't trust at all, but which was indispensable for notes) and all those "analyses to optimize performance and scan for viruses" were tiresome. I'd still like to switch to an S24 Ultra for the screen and ESPECIALLY because I can't stand the IOS keyboard at all. So I'll be following your adventures closely!

That is the principle yes. You need to get away of the Apple walled garden. Samsung is natively integrated with OneDrive. So basically all your photos of your gallery are automatically in the Windows photo app... Same for all. Obviously it makes no sense to have a Samsung phone with an iPad or Mac. The goal is to also have one less device which is only possible on Windows side which are the only one to propose 2-in-1 device.

I’m also a long term iPhone user who has tried to switch. I’m sorry, I just can’t do it and believe me, I’ve tried. Just typing this sentence for instance, it’s so easy to type on the iPhone where the S24 seems like I’m fumbling through messages, going back to correct words multiple times. Then there’s little things like long press on messages to preview them, I can’t seem to do this on the S24 and don’t get me started on how absolutely bob the face unlock is!!!!! Yes, the S24 is an absolute monster of a machine that out performs most phones, iPhone included, but it’s the day to day things, like typing, that just doesn’t cut it for me.
@ship_now_or_never8 ай бұрын
Come on... did you say typing? I have an iPad pro and I objectively believe it's better than the samsung tablet. I had an iphone 12 and it's typing experience was exactly the same as on my current iPad. I swear the iphone/ipad keyboard is the worst by a million miles. Video on iphone is better, sound quality a little better too but that is not enough for a sane person to remain in the 5 star prison called "apple ecosystem"

@@ship_now_or_never like I said, I’ve been a long time iPhone user, like since the 3GS. I find the keyboard so easy to use. I’ve really tried to get on with the S24 Ultra. Before now, I’ve actually put it down and picked up my 15 Pro Max to continue a conversation. I genuinely prefer the look of the S24. It’s such a nice looking device.

I keep going between the two and recently bought IP 14PM and was convinced I'd stay on iOS after having Pixel Fold as my last phone and being a Pixel fanboy. I had a Pixel 7 pro as back up to iPhone 14pm but then had to give to my wife. So convinced by iOS I bought a 13 mini as my back up and started using it instead of the 14pm and then foungvi preferred the mini and the large phone felt childish due to massive icons that you can't adjust. Needless to say I traded it in and bought a z fold 4 again as I've had all the folds. And guess what. Android has got me back after 4 days and my 13 mini is now a work only phone. So I think you will enjoy android full time tbh. My next phone will be s24 ultra or Pixel 9 pro.

Heyy great comparison bruh! I felt this was sooo straight away and honest comments because I see people always over speak about iphone only because it is an Apple product. To be brutally honest, the Samsung is practically the best, donno why people always talk about the ecosystem, we are paying for that particular device hardware... software and the overall experience not only for the ecosystem 😄.... And i loved you're too straight on that 💯... Love from India 💪🏻

I am really tempted to do the same as you. I am also tempted by the Tab S9 Ultra that looks stunning for content and has Dex direct with a keyboard. I think Apple has become stale with the iPhone 15 PM not exciting me at all, so I kept my 13 PM. But, the rest of my family are all ardent iPhone and iPad users, with iMessage and FaceTime being used all the time by default for basic comms between us when we are out of the house working or doing our separate stuff. In this sense, it is not just my Apple ecosystem. Very interested in your journey.

What about all the Banding issue and loss of quality of the camera you can find on forums. Is that gone or just rumors
@richardstenlund24318 ай бұрын
I think the biggest difference between the Apple and Samsung ecosystems is that the Samsung ecosystem is more open for products outside the brand. Even though the Apple ecosystem works very well, it is also more of a prison designed to keep you in.... for life and making it as hard as possible to switch.
@andyH_England8 ай бұрын
I could not switch to a Samsung laptop as they are beaten in every metric versus an MB Pro. They are also expensive; the Galaxy Book4 Ultra is £3150 for 32GB/Core Ultra 9/1TB/4070. I prefer an MB Pro 16 M3 Max at those prices! Also, the Galaxy Watch6 is meh. Compared to my 2.5-year-old Apple Watch, it is still behind for usefulness. I also prefer an iPad, and next month, with the new M3 OLED iPads arriving, it will be hard to buy anything else if you care about performance. The S24U is definitely better than the iPhone 15PM, but the ecosystem for me keeps the iPhone as my main driver ahead of my secondary phone, the S24U.

I have the vanilla S24 as a second phone. It's a decent phone and in some areas, the cameras are better than my 14 Pro Max. It was a pain when I switched from the Note 9 to the iPhone 11 Pro Max. I hated it at first as I'd always used Android and primarily Samsung. Since then, I've come to appreciate my iPhone and the Walled garden that is Apple. I love the way all my gear works together. I play with the S24 but I just don't like Android anymore. I haven't used the full capability of any phone for quite a long time. I don't care about tweaking this or changing that. I never have. I don't care if it's boring, just that it functions. It's a tool. Today's smartphones are all pretty decent. Use what gets the job done for you. Enjoy it. Use the heck out of it.
@jeanbaptistelabelle8 ай бұрын
All gear on Android / Samsung/Windows side works together great. Let's stop with the tweaking bullshit. We are speaking of basic things at that point in time : USB-C on phone and Buds and all devices, reverse wireless charger that allow to charge your Watch while travelling, T9 dialing (it is a phone, is not making call one of the very basic thing it should do well?), split screen, choice of default app and default browser (no not using Web kit)? Notification than you can choose (choose what type of notifications in an app you get)... There are gazillions things which are not nerd tweaking but pretty basic and useful things. What about a back button / gesture that.. actually goes back? Consistently?

i love the s24 ultra , however i have to chagne back to the iphone 15 pro max and the reason why i changed from s23 in the past to 15pro max , a software update can kill completely the samsung camera , just check it how bad the night video is on the s24 ultra , other then that amazing phone , but for that cost its a huge con .
