you also can't add back in detail that was never captured. while i think the iPhone's added warmth and POP look best for vanity social media photos, the Pixel 2's sharpness provides detail and accuracy i always find myself interested in when looking back on life events.

And, for what I've ssen, portrait mode in Google camera's is inteliggent and learns throughout time (aparently, you got to upload your photos to google app Photo and it learn by "seeying" it. I saw a guy that took a portrait mode of a DSLR in a tripe and the camera couldn't get that right. Then, a few months later, he took the same picture and that shit was perfect. I'm really impressed.

I prefer the extra detail and sharpness on the Pixel.... I mean you can always boost the colors on the Pixel's photos if you want, but you can't boost the detail and get rid of the noise on the iPhone's photos... Plus I also like the wide angle lens on the Pixel.

its not the lack of detail, but the lack of sharpness which you can edit. And as for detail, clearly iPhone has more as it doesn't crush the blacks, except for that night shot of the tree. But that's simply bc the pixel boosted the brightness, if you were to edit the iPhone and boost brightness you would be able to see that tree. Thats the reason why that pic, the pixel had so much noise on the tree

Kenhai Darrell it’s not “overstaurated” like Samsung. No way near it. It just has a new colour filter. And tbh, I rather have a camera with Portrait Lighting, a telephoto Lens, 4K at 60 FPS, 1080p Slo-Mo at 240 FPS and a Quad-LED True Tone Flash with Slow Sync. The iPhone X is also rated the best camera for taking still images (DXCOMARK 101).

That portrait selfie shot with your sister from the beginning says it all, machine learning on the Pixel 2 is incredible. Blurred the background, but kept your sister's face in focus. That's something the dual lens hardware can't do without proper software optimization like Google. 👍

Both are doing amazing job. But I do prefer Pixel 2 coz with a minor edit on the Pixel 2 pics gives the same colors and output as iPhone X retaining the same amount of sharpness..

You can correct the color of photos easily with an app, but you can't fix poor sharpness and over exposure. Pixel 2 wins this easily.

The shoe picture did not come up right on the Pixel because the portrait mode is meant for faces so the machine learning algorithm is learning more on how to correctly capture faces, and less on other objects.

Np. I'm assuming she used the hdr+ out of the box. From what I've read on Google Forums HDR+ "Enhanced" adds more contrast and saturation. This may be the reason why in her comparison the Pixel cameras photos seemed to be less saturated then the iPhones. It would have been nice if she played around with both settings.

even though pics taken on iPhone X are losing some details as compared to their Pixel 2 counterpart, still I would say in overall iPhone does better job because of its color temperature which is slightly on the warmer side.. It adds more color to the pics... Pixel 2 pics turned out to be little bit bland... However the selfie taken on iPhone X in dark disappointed me..

She is shooting in hevc compression on the iPhone X. This is a process that compresses the images to smaller file sizes for storage. This process takes away from image detail because this file size is smaller than a jpeg. If she switches to jpeg, the images will have more detail, hevc compression is on by default it needs to be turned off or set to most compatible. This allows the camera to store in full jpeg. To do this: settings-camera-formats change the setting to most compatible and watch the quality and sharpness of the images change.

In low light when you zoom in like you did while capturing swans , telephoto lens will not be activated because it has a smaller aperture and if it did, whole picture will be much much darker. In low light you lose the ability of optical zoom in all of the smartphones sporting dual camera(wide angle and telephoto). So when you click on "2x" button you will get digital zoom in low light.
