This is an amazing budget option! Thanks for sharing Mike! Tough decisions ahead!

What's wild is he says that's a 20k panel. But much of the equipment is reusable if you want to upgrade down the road. So it's really just a great stepping stone avionics package it your ultimate goal is Garmin/dynon but don't want to spend for it right away. Very cool!

Nice sequence, Mike! I think it is very reasonable. G5 @ $2500, Guardian modules (data and engine) @ $1900, two iPad mount kits @ $800... then bring your own iPads which many of use will already have or can use the other 28 days a month we're not flying. You're into an all-glass twin-panel setup with lots of features for less than $7500. Assuming radio and analog are already there but could be a complete setup for less than $10k. Very reasonable for the sheer square inches worth of glass and ever-improving feature set. Excellent value!

Until you're forced by FAA to pay an installer $20k for connecting the colored wires together.

$20k for that set up!!!!! That’s really value for money. Thanks Mike. I can see a lot of GA owners. Upgrading.

I think this is clearly where we are heading for some parts of the market. iPads have some amazing capabilities and the cost per extra display is hard to beat compared to anything in the aviation world. I do feel a bit funny to think that my avionics need a subscription, even though in the grander scheme of costs to own and operate a plane it is nothing.
@tomdchi123 жыл бұрын
Very interesting. There are pros and cons to this of course, but I hope this puts downward pricing pressure on Garmin.

Nah I don’t think so this is cheap, but compared to Garmin it’s kinda Trash

This is revolutionary. The ability to have full glass panel at a price that is not completely cost prohibitive.
@EJWash573 жыл бұрын
Sorry. It's NOT what you think it is. It's a way to repeat/display what is already installed.
@meninactionllc58693 жыл бұрын
Thanks mike because of you we will be looking into guardian to give us this glass panel we desire in the 150
@EJWash573 жыл бұрын
Sooo... It's a way to redisplay flight info piped into it from Garmin flight displays, and includes a few other REALLY nice features. This presentation is painfully lacking, but I'm sure after playing with it in person with the rep, things would gel.

How does the iPad screen look in the sunlight compared to the Garmin?
@tylerwright4973 жыл бұрын
Ipads suck in the sunlight if i had a plane i'd rather buy a garmin you wont be able to read anything in the sun
@marcelguimaraes3 жыл бұрын
If you can’t see the iPad in the sun, just change to your iPhone, it has better visibility and you can bring closer to your eyes

Will this work if the IPads are just in the cockpit, but not on the dashoard?
@baomao72433 жыл бұрын
This is a positive. As iPads/iPhones get more powerful you get to slipstream on that price/performance vs being locked in perpetuity to clunky interfaces that don’t improve or integrate new tech/capabilities. Nice.

Seems like a really good idea to get a full glass ifr panel for a reasonable price

@Ulbre3 жыл бұрын
and over time, cockpit accidents will happen, I'm sure you'll be happier replacing a badly scratched or even smashed iPad screen than a Garmin screen....I guess the main con would be sunlight in the wrong position....but you'll still have the G5 and also, it won't be a problem most of the time

I'll probably get used to a 6-pack and a G530 before I start considering dropping 5-digits on a glass panel which... gives what advantage exactly? Well, synthetic terrain is good when in IFR, I guess.

Yeah, I'd pick steam-gauges and a handhelp iPad over that shit. Might ditch the latter once I familiarize with working the ol' G530 enough to not need the iPad at all.

I came away from this video not knowing what was being presented. I went to their website, which made things a bit more clear - but NOT crystal clear. The best I can tell is that they offer Garmin display repeaters, with a few other options.

hmmm, meh, using a tablet can be ok for some augmentation since GA avionics is so far behind but trying to make it a permanent installation seems like a dead end. Better to build proper avionics and beat stagnant overpriced garmin and others. Start with 20 inch touch, clear synthetic vision, no effing compass rose or tape clutter. this is not 1925. Look at MSFS to see how good synthetic vision can look. Doesn't have to be that good but just a little bit better than the first flight sim. This is 2021, not 1990. Things have progressed.
