I listened to it as a boy growing-up in mid 1980s blaring from my uncle's LP. I liked the song so much then that I recited it in Igbo language as "isi gi ho otuaaa afogi zaa" not knowing that it was Zulu/Xhosa South African song. Awesome and timeless song !!!!!!!!

Martin O. Nasson They performed live in Queen's Theatre in London in 1976. I attended the show and it was fantastic! As a Tanzanian on a brief tour of England then, I left the theatre proud of the Africanness the stupendous show displayed in a foreign country. Long live Ipi Ntombi!

As a young 7yr old white English girl, I was visiting family friends in South Africa in 1974 and saw the show in Jo'Burg (I think). I was blown away and had the album which I danced to endlessly in my living room back in northern England for years. It's a massive part of my childhood. I grew up with good understanding of the plight of the black S. Africans and my heart still beats for them.

Well loved favorite. I live in Papua New Guinea. I remember this album from back then when I was a student and the dance was performed at a cultural show. I use it today to teach my students.

I saw this with my wife and a dear friend when we lived temporarily in Johannesburgh. Silly as it may sound, the music and the spectacular are still highlights of our lives. To have experienced it in apartheid S.A. pretty much on its opening night, just wonderful. Indescribably so. Well done Bertha and thank you. (I still have the original LP!)

I remember being in the school musical Ipitombi. We were all coloured with black paint, had our hair up in knotted plaits and wore short grass skirts. It was an amazing musical and so much fun for a bunch of high school kids. I'm reliving it now listening to this. I still remember most of the words which is strange.

I worked behind the scenes with the Ipitombi troupe when they came for Festac ‘77 and gave brilliant performances at the National Theatre. We later met again in New York where some of the Troupe had sought for asylum because of the apartheid situation in South Africa then. My best friend amongst all of them was Thembi Mtshali who I believe is back in South Africa now. If anyone knows where she is please give her my warm regards and love.
